I like his music from the standpoint that he doesn't try to glorify the ghetto or any aspect of the ghetto life.
I like hip hop a lot, and I don't listen to Will Smith much, but it's hard not to at least respect the fact that his messages portray better messages than most traditional hip hop.

He doesn't live in the ghetto now, but why would any successful person live there? No successful hip hop artists live there.
Granted some are from the Ghetto, but there are some that are not and act like they are.
The worst was a comment that I heard from Ja Rule, while he was high. 'It's hard being black. The police don't leave us alone...' bla bla, I don't remember his exact words but this is the message he was trying to get across. Will Smith is black, doesn't seem like he has any of these problems. I too am coloured, and I've been able to make the most out of my life.

Will Smith did grow up in the ghetto i think it was in Philly, he was writing rhymes with his boys and using all the explatives that rappers use-his grandma found them told him not to write that garbage because it was disrespectful and he didnt wanna make her made so he stopped usin all those words in his songs

Will Smith was a childhood icon to me and a lot of my generation who was learning about family, girls, and music at that time. In my opinion, Fresh Prince was more of an influence than Saved By The Bell or Degrassi. He taught us to love our brothers and respect tapered pants and polka-dot padded-shoulder shirts.
