Before you answer with searchbar I have had a good look through other threads about camcorders and I know a lot of you rate the HV30 but didn't find much on the HF10. I wanna buy a cam and am trying to decide between these two. I know the HV30 is a safe bet but I am very tempted to buy the Flash based HF10 as I am a lazy bastard and can't be bothered capturing footage from tapes, the ease of transfer the flash cards would be a time saving plus. Also my friend has a HV20 which is trashed from falls and drops. the HF10 is marketed as being good for durability, its also smaller and therefore easier to ski with in my pocket. I am very concerned about image quality as i will be giving a lot of the suff I shoot to the Unity boys who are using a professional camera so i dont want the footage to be too far off the mark.
What would you guys suggest? anyone worked with the HF10? any imput would be greatly recieved with some ++KK

AVCHD really is sketchy in cheaper lower end cameras, correct me if im wrong my camera friends. I'd stick to HDV personally, IMO avchd is crap.

You'd be surprised how long it takes to import shots from solid state, when i import i have to go through each shot and label the ones i want to keep and then select them to import, then i can walk away. It still takes a long time to import though.

What eheath said. Our campus news show uses hf10's and importing like 20 minutes of footage for a short story typically takes like 15 minutes and thats just dragging them in the transfer bin without labeling or anything. You're really not saving that much more time. Plus depending on the program and computer you're using avchd can be hassel to deal with.

Yeah... I still didint understand why the hf10 was a bad camera... Whats so bad about ACVHD? Also how difficult is it to use FireWire and Tapes? Do you have to buy new tapes? Or can you just keep rewriting over the old one?

I love shooting with my HV20. I find firewire easy and quick to be honest. The quality is a lot better than the hard drive camera I had. You can record over tapes but I never do. I like using fresh tapes.

I work off of the HF200 at school and I was a little wary about it when we first got it. But after using it for a while Its actually a really nice camera. It doesnt do to awesome in low light, but nothing some lights couldnt fix. the quality is pretty good and its small. I would recommend it
