Hey math wizzes (graphing calculator question)

I am in a pre-calculus trig class this semester and will most likely be taking calc 1 and 2 before I am done with school. My teacher suggests I purchase a Ti-82,83,85, or 86 graphing calculator. The 89 and 92 isn't an option. I am going to buy this off of Ebay tonight so emailing him wont really be an option. I would have started looking sooner but I just got done with a 5 day shred and destroy road trip and have not had internet. Do most of these calculators do pretty much the same thing or are there noticable advantages to the different models?

I've done a little research and I know some of them have flash memory cards and others have USB connectivity. I couldnt find any info on the 82. Anyone have advice?

I made it through Calc one with a TI-83 plus just fine.  Def. get the plus, you will want the apps and extra storage.  Not sure what the 85 is,but the 86 has 3d graphing (I think) which you don't really need.

Either the 83 plus, or the 84 silver (way more memory) will be just fine.

I have the TI 84 plus silver edition. Its what tons of kids have. It does everything you'll need and has plenty of space and programs to make you happy.

I don't know if you are a member, but you can buy it at costco for cheap. Or check ebay.

i survived with an 83 from 7th grade thru sophomore year of college. theres the 83+ out now, and im not 100% sure of the difference. equation solver program for one variable problems, (or you have to graph the equation for multi-intercepts), you can type cheater notes in the program editor, or make little programs (if you know basic) to solve shit for you so you only have to learn it once.

then i got the 89 titanium. solves quadrouple integrals (and you thought there was only three dimensions), has electrical/physics/finance programs already on it, regular USB port for typing shit on your computer than transferring it, and a calendar/contacts if you're a supernerd.

I have a TI-84, I'm currently in Algebra II and I'll be in Trig next semester. So far, everybody that has a TI-82 is completely fine. I don't know anything about calculators but they don't have any button differences and the only difference I've noticed is the shape.

Although, I wouldn't completely take my advice. I don't know anything technical about calculators so your best bet would be to talk to your math teacher and see if they know anything. I'm 100% positive they will know more about calculators then I do. I'm just stating that up to Algebra II, everybody that has a TI-82 is fine.

Don't get the 82, you will hate your life.  They work, but they are crazy slow and lack many features of the 83+.

Get an 83+ or 84+. They're pretty similar, and its what most people (in my experience) use throughout high school.

I got an 89 in 8th grade and I'm still using it for classes in college (2nd year physics/CS major). It was awesome cruising through algebra with that thing, but I kinda wish I hadn't of used it so much in my calc classes because I didn't really learn a lot of the stuff.

I have the 89 and its fine.  I woudnt get it becuase you cant use it on the ACT but it was my sisters so i got it for free.  But it does all kind of shit like factoring.

i have the 83+ and it gets me by, i know the 84 has more memory and other apps but i dont know about the 85 or 86.

you'll probably be fine tho with an 83+ or an 84 and im sure they are cheaper than the higher end models.
