Not liking POWDER??

sorry had to clear that up.  but anyways so i was eating lunch in the lodge and i over heard this kid behind me(and mid you this kid's not a total nub, hes actually a really good overall skier, he used race and all) talking to his friends about whatever and he says "I don't like skiing powder" and i almost turned around and "POW! RIGHT IN THE KISSER!"-ed him, but i didnt.

so what im trying to say is, does anyone not enjoy skiing powder? im not here to hate on you, im just wondering, because everyone i know jizzes their pants when then get to ski that amazing fluff...

I live for it.  But a friend of mine, does not.  In fact, he hates it.  He's got narow ass, stiff race ski (but deosn't race) and doesn't turn.  He's a bit of a no-skill-adrenaline junkie shall I say.  He just straightlines, and so it makes sense from his style.  Powder slows you down, groomers are faster and if you don't turn, I suppose it doesn't really make a difference.  After reading this, I think Why am I still friends with him?

umm... this is really an argument??? skiing pow is the best feeling ever. last year i skipped school with a buddy of mine to ski 2ft of fresh. we got there and got first tracks on this one trail KNEE DEEP in pow, and i was on public enemys which are heavy as shit and are not a good powder ski. as long as i kept my speed up i had a blast. and fresh pow also allows you to do things you would never do, such as cliffs. i remember there was this frozen waterfall in the open pit glades of gore mtn in ny that is probably along the lines of 15ft or so, which is pretty big for me. i was able to drop that twice that day. bottom line, pow = EPIC WIN.

dude i got the same skis and when i went in utah with them i had the best times of my life shreddin 2 feets of fresh powder without any kind of difficulty, sure its not the best but it works sick when you want

racing will brainwash you, they love ice. just today my friends and i made it out of the park to get some powder runs and the whole time up the lift we watched racers ski glare ice with only one ski on....and no joke they were smiling the whole time. i might have killed myself in that situation.

I will admit that my first time in powder I did not like it.  GASP!

Before that I had only skied the Blue Ice of Mount Wachusett, and had no idea how to ski in deep snow.
Luckily I had a friend of mine from Nor Cal shredding it up and calling me a pussy for floundering in the fresh snow.
Needless to say I picked it up by the second day, and last weekend I was at Jay Peak. I live in mass so 4.5 hour drive...  is SO worth it.

Alright guys, all of you saying you hate skiing pow cause you don't have the right setup it's time to shut up. I skied 2 seasons on 176 1260's, and all of this season so far on 169 Townships. I'm almost 6' tall, and you don't hear me bitching. I know how to ski powder, and I can definitely charge the deeps regardless of setup as can all of you. It's harder work and it's not as comfortable as my buddies on EP's and hellbents, but it's still fucking fun.

Even though my mountain gets no powder, so I have no idea where I learned to ski it.

I think there is something to this.  It has to do with equipment and technique.  I learned to ski powder in my early teens going on a trip out west, and I hated it at first.  This was back in the days of skinny skis, and I thought I was a ripper back east.  When I flailed in powder I hated it, but eventually I got the hang of bouncing and floating.  I have never met anyone who can actually ski powder who does not love it.  It rules on skinny skis too, you just have to know how to ski it.

if you complain about a powder day your not a true skier,  however for all you park rats stay in the park, stay off the trail and out of the trees and leave more of the good stuff (powder) for the real skiiers,   like someone else already said, good powder days are right up there with the good sweaty drunk sex we all like to have,     

if you dont like powder than stay in the park when it is a powday and leave the real skiing for me,   there should not even be an argument here
