That is so broad, but I guess that leaves the potential for many badass papers.

Some topics I'm fond of that may or may not be of interest, could include:
Causation of the decline and fall of the byzantine empire to the turks in 1453 (or, potentially more interesting, the road to the Latin sack in 1206 in the 4th crusade).
Integral role of Hagia Sophia (kind of) in developing and preserving the Christian east. Such a badass building.
Perhaps you could look at the development of history as we come to look at it, with a Greek flavor, going back to oral roots such as homeric poems, to later historians such as Herodotus and Thucydides and what relevance there is today, or something like that.
Emergence of writing/western civ after the greek dark age? Kind of a vague topic but there are some great books on the subject.
Endless other possibilities.

Guy fawkes wouldn't be hard. Just write about his plan or whatever and what effect it had on britain(right?) and that childrens song that goes with it.

write about ghengis khan's legacy in the modern and western world.
