I skied Granite Peak saturday night, 1/17/09. (The only reason I went saturday night instead of saturday day is because of the ridiculous ticket price, but thats another thread altogether.) Before I even made my 1st run, I was standing behind a snow fence that was about 3 feet high, I was doing my warm up stretches. I was completely out of the way, unless somebody would have blatantly TRIED to turn into me or jumped the fence to hit me. Since the fence was about 3 feet high I didn't think that was a big deal. Low and behold, a snowboarder jumped the fence and ran straight into me, knocking us both down. No one was hurt and words were exchanged, so I just finished my stretches, but I wasn't happy. So I start my first run, called "drop in" as loud as I could, and barrel my way to the first jump, which I landed fine. On my way down to the 2nd and final jump on that run, a snowboarder who i hadn't seen behind the landing of the first jump starts down the hill. I yell "I'M HITTING IT" as loud as I can. I know he heard me because he looked at me, and he kept going. When I hit the jump, he cut across the landing and I ended up jumping right over his head. Words were exchanged again, and nobody was hurt.
Now, I realize that these incidents involved snowboarders and not skiers, but this is not the first time I've had this sort of problem, ESPECIALLY at Granite Peak, and yes sometimes they were skiers. Even still, I would just like to remind everyone to use park ettiquette and to be smart and look uphill. Luckily nobody was hurt in these events, but I don't have to tell you that it could've been bad.
All that being said, props to Granite park crew. Lots of swoot rails and the jumps are perfectly formed. But where is the excitebike jump-on jump-off? I thought that feature was sick!!
