Well i was reading Ski canada or some other ski magazine and the issue had a big chunk on global warming and shit.
anyways, i read this one stat that i found kinda depressing. They were showing a picture of COC's or momentums jump line( not sure which) and they said at the current rate of glacier melt that each year there would be 2 or 3 less jumps every uear! like holy shit, im not sure how accurte that is but if it is accurate that really really fucking sucks.
yea that was it, i couldnt remember what magazine it was.

what we are seeing is not a "warming" trend. it is in fact a climate change. we may not see warmer temperatures from year to year but we will see more irradic weather patterns meaning more snow for "dryer" areas or more cold for traditionally "warmer" areas (ie snow in las vegas December 2008).
as for glaciers retreating, they are not seeing 2 less jumps per year. it will be more like 2 less jumps 5-10 years. it's still alarming but we also need to realize that these are reminants of the last ice age and like most of the ice from that period has disappeared. there is evidence of tropical plant matter in arctic ice meaning at one time the arctic was a tropical climate.
if you want to ski in the summer, head to chile. you might be suprised how much cheaper it is than a trip to whistler.
i read that the highest ski station in the world, which is in the andes, might have to close VERY SOON ( the article said 2010)because 80% of the glacier it sits on has melted. i dont know if this means closed for good or closed during their summer, but still that is very alarming.

Our problem is we're caught up in maintaining a constant state of equilibrium in the environment. If one little thing changes we freak out. We're too caught up with extinction rates and fearmongering and moneyspending on said fearmongering to realize that the earth works in phases. To assume that the industrial activity over the last 200 years or so has caused as much damage as we think it has is simply arrogant. Ironically, the oceans release more greenhouse gases than humans do. Water vapor? You guessed it, greenhouse gas. Climate change isn't really even a problem. People are just too dumb to think outside of the box and look at things from a different perspective. I wonder how long it will take "scientists" to decide that our space garbage is throwing the moon out of its normal orbit or something along those lines. We progress from one catastrophe to the next.
Alright, i ski in the summer regularly, and i can say that the glaciar at hood has gotten noticebly smaller in the last couple years. And it makes me want to cry a little
