Hills "near" Nelson

Well i'm planning on making a trip out to Nelson in Februray and i was just wondering what hills are within day trip distance. I know Red is about an hour away, so we'll probably go there. But is there anything else within 2 hours or less worth checking out?

Ok well apparently my dad already has locations picked, so we would be skiing two days at nelson, then driving to kelowna after the second day skiing. So my question is..what is better mid february; rossland or kelowna?

if you dont like lift lines alot of people, deep powder and the best tree skiing you will ever do go to red its such a chill resort no hustle or bustle like whistler, big white, silver star. i wuold go red mountain for shure

if you like skiing trees, cliffs, and pow (if we get any this year) then stay in this area and hit up red and whitewater... if you don't have any avi gear or know anything about avalanches or touring I'd say you'll have a better skiing experience at Red Mountain than Whitewater.

that being said - if your dad is all about fast lifts, groomers, and being catered to - Big white would be more his style... and if you're a park rat who doesn't like powder, you'd be more at home at big white as well.

K well, i was planning on staying 3 nights in nelson, and then drive to revy, but upon further inspection on google maps that would require taking a ferry. And i'm guessing the ferry doesnt run in winter?

theres been quite a few pow days this year at big white...probly more then you've been getting in red.

50cms overnight at silver star one day in december...

ferry does run in the winter and it is free. there's a schedule for it up on the internet somewhere... I'll try to find the link for you.

well, I'm not saying you don't get the snow. The problem lies in slope angulation. You get a 50cm dump and do what? make worm turns through the flats that is your hill? When we get a 50cm day over in our parts... oh you best know its on. steep and deep with more cliffs than you can shake your pole at... oh yea - and no line ups.

yes i know it all seems very flat if you dont know where your going, but if you do theres actually some really steep stuff here. i've been to red and i know for BC stuff its way better, but if you know where to go theres the same stuff here. and teh backside of silver star has alot of quite steep and narrow stuff aswell.

lineups are only problems on holidays...

right... so if I understand you correctly you're claiming that Big White has just as good inbounds steeps and cliffs as Red Mountain?

you're gonna have to show me pics of your "steep" terrain at Big White, or it doesn't exist.

nope you understood wrong, i clearly stated that red has better terrain for BC stuff such as cliffs/steeps. i would get you some pictures but i dont own a camera to take such pictures. if you ask any local that has been at big white for a while they'll tell you if you know where to go you can get some good steep's and drops...trust me i've ridden here for 13 years and i know what there is here. If your just a random skier travelling to the mountain once, its quite easy to have the assumption that there is in fact no steeps at all. its a decent sized mountain, theres more diverse terrain then you think. Red sure does have more, but theres still some here too.

yea, but - it doesn't really work, or make sense. the lay of the land isn't determined by human made boundaries.

you'll probly never realise that there is good inbound skiing at big white, and i dont care, you could get mean. i've realised long ago that some people in this world are just ignorant.

Red and Whitewater were both pretty sick. Wayyyyy better then sunshine and louise right now. If i was here during a dump, i would probably never leave.
