I use to listen to what I thought was underground hip hop: mos def, kweli, the roots, common, cunninlynguists, zion i, aesop, del, dilated peoples, hilltop hoods, MF Doom etc.
And then I realized that like half these people are extremley well known so I stopped calling them underground artists. Then I realized that being well known doesn't mean your a bad rapper. I still don't listen to people on the radio like dj khaled, lil wayne, ti, young jeezy, etc. because I personally think they suck. But theres a lot of artists that are well known and are still great. Like nas, biggie, jay z, tupac, even kanye, wu tang, mobb deep etc.
I definitly listen to what you call 'underground hip hop' but honestly thats a terrible name because theres so many people that think they are hot shit (I know I'm guilty of the same but not like them) because you don't know about the artists they listen too.
Honestly just listen to what you like and stop making the distinction between underground and well known because there is none, its just hip hop. Who the fuck cares how well known someone is. Most real underground artists suck or else they would be somewhat well known

my point was that just because someone is popular, it doesn't mean they suck, but good one
And what the thread creator said makes no sense. Hip hop is not like an elevated form of rapping. HIp hop is hip hop. Rap is rap, its a part of hip hop.
i never read anything in his replys that said he hated popular music artists...
plus i think it makes sense cuz everytime i hear a song by 50 cent i think: this is rap. and everytime i hear a song by lets say jurassic 5 (sense everyone pretty much knows about them) i think of it as hip hop. compare the differences between jurassic 5 and 50 cent: you can find songs that sound a lot like 50 cent by other people, and i like 50 but they are kinda repetitive. then jurassic's beats are more fuller i guess you might say. and plus they have their own style. but anyways i know im not going to change your mind because everyone has different tastes and opinions in music. and honestly it doesn't really matter... its just music... nothin to fight about. all im saying is i agree. im done now..
