Knee problems.

I was resently told by my doctor that i am not aloud to ski because i have torn my meniscus.(i think that's what it's called)  anyways, i just wondered if anyone has had or heard of someone who has had this problem. if so how long does the recovery take. (because my doctor has sent y to physio and they will tell me when i can ski)  and when u do get healed is it still sore after or what.  Thanks alot.

Shit that sucks dude,

It happened to my dad around march of last year when he was skiing. He had surgery over the summer and he cant ski until march. Keep in mind he is older so the recovery time is longer, and he also had it repaired instead of removed, which will also really increase recovery time. That being said, a repair is MUCH better than a removal if possible.

im not getting it removed its a veryy minor tear he said and it should heal on its own

It really depends on the tear.  For something minor like yours you might be back skiing 100% within a couple months if you listen to your doctor.  Or you can be like me...

I tore mine last year, had surgery, then had to get surgery again this week to remove some more shredded tissue and cartailage.  Because of this, I may be condemned to groomers for the rest of my life, or skiing off them in a really, really mellow manner.  Listen to what your doctor says and don't push too hard and you'll be ok.

i had ACL surgery in may and just tore my meniscus and maybe my mcl, do what your doctor tells you to they know best

yeah meniscus injuries shouldnt be taken lightly, i tore mine during football in 8th grade back in the day, then the doctors didnt say anything was wrong with my knee cept there was and any ways last year exactly (january 16, 2008) i had my knee surgery to put in a new acl, fix my mcl and clean out what was left of my meniscus but im skiing better than ever this year.... this what your meniscus shouldnt look like....Click for larger image

very true. esp at a young age. take into account that you love skiing and ignoring your doc could lead to you never being able to ski like you use to.

if you get surgery you could probably be skiing in a month the two moths meniscus is a faster recovery than most knee injures.

My knees have been hurting for over a year. They get to the point sometimes where I can't even ski, or it hurts a lot to even turn. Which prohibits me from actually skiing, like popping for 270s or trying them or whatver or jumps or other stuff. Even nollies hurt. It is a huuuuge problem that will not go away.

I know i should listen to my doctor but it just sucks. i had a comp tomorrow park team tryouts sunday.  a few up coming comps and if it doesnt heal in time a cant go in telus spin.  It fucking sucks

same problem. maybe a little less severe but i can only bend my right knee like 45 degrees with pressure on it. im to afraid to go to the doctor however. I havent had a season ending injury yet. plan on going to utah in march also. im not going to visit the doctor until i get back from utah. hopefully it'll all be good by next year.

You could could fuck up your knees for life with that outlook. Get them checked out. Because you may have a season ending injury, which could progress to a CAREER ending injury, or at least extremely career impeding injury.

if i thought it was really that bad i would but i dont think it is. I have been skiing fine without pain for a week or so now. as long as i dont over do it i'll be good.

they can heal but its really dependent on where the tear is.
if you have surgery its repaired or cut out from the tear.
recovery if its repaired is normally anywhere from 3-5months, if its cut out you could be skiing again in 1 month.

yea but some of these lines for these surgerys are like a 6 month waiting list (i live in Canada) so that could effect my lacrosse season if i have to wait for 6 months than have 1 month recovery
