Extremely good piloting to bring that thing down with no deaths.

It was a planned crash.
Birds caught in jets, its not Torn up, due to them trying to put it down, so that they didnt land in the city.

Yeah pilot did a damn good job to get it down safely.  Great to see everyone got out alive as well.

As for it floating for a while it is down to the air spaces in the plane + the fuel.  As it was just taking off it would of had a full (nearly full) load of fuel.  As jet fuel weighs less than water (6.75lbs/ (US) gallon to 8.35lbs/ (US) gallon for water) the plane has enough buoyancy to stay afloat

i'm just curious, why do you find it sad and upsetting? I think it's a great story about a new tragedy avoided.

Airlines in the US are on a good streak, no major fatal accidents since i think November of 2001.

remember in 2006 that Delta Comair flight out of Lexington, that crashed after take off killing 30+ people? But yea, since then there has been 0 deaths from commercial aviation, I think that is the largest streak in US history.

yea i heard about that earlier, such a sick landing by the pilot. i bet hes gonna get a nice pat on the back by the today show or some shit like that. all this caused by some birds. thats crazy.

i find it upsetting and sad that it happened yes its great it was fatal but at the time i was aware that it was unknown if people had died yet they were just saying how cold the water is and how people can only survive a few minutes

yea i do remember that one, it was a crj-200 that took off from the wrong runway i believe. Unfortunately, the reports i read (about the non-fatal streak) didn't regard that as a major accident. Apparently a major accident to them is something like 100+. It's all perspective i suppose, but i personally regard any commercial accident as a major one.
