Control Through Fear

I have to write an essay in my English class about control through fear tomorrow and we need to bring in an article about control through fear in the past to use as a reference. What situation should I get an article on? I already have a piece on Senator Joe McCarthy and McCarthyism but I’m wondering if I should get something better. What do you think?

McCarthy is a good idea but I dont think it was a control through fear situation as much as it was a stage for mass hysteria. Id go with Russian Politics. Looks up how the elections are run and what the guys in charge do to knock out the compitition
