Hey guys I'm writing an English paper on my definition of the word "faith."  I've already written most of it but I still need to beef it up a little so I'm asking you - what comes to mind when you hear the word faith?  How would you define it?

religon and god, and if you want the definition from my theology book its experiance of the divine or holy presence sometimes involving intellectuall belief and sometimes emphasizing personal trust

having faith is acting without every piece of necessary information and accepting the blanks that the obvious doesnt fill

or it could be an unwillingness to seek truth for yourself or it could be acceptance of a certain version of the truth that you believe to be most correct....

are you talking about it in a religious context or a secular context or both?

The way I look at faith is simply in the form of optimism. As gay as it sounds, faith is what motivates me to every morning wake up and smile even if it is the shittiest day of my life. Ask anyone that knows me, I don't stay mad or depressed long. I believe that everyone has a gap in their life that some people fill with religion, some people fill with hope, some people fill with spite, etc. Faith is necessary in human emotional structure. Now this doesn't mean that everyone prays as a form of faith. For me, faith is a reward. Striving and looking up above where I am instead of below has always brought me good fortune. I don't sit there and ask some holy man in the sky for it. The sooner we can embrace faith as something separate from religion, the sooner we can realize its true power.

googles definition: religion: an institution to express belief in a divine power

I think of faith as a belief in something that is unexplainable.  The most common instance of this is usually in people's religion, but it can also range from loyalty to a person or how much you can rely on someone to get the job done.  That's definatley a tuffie though
