Another reason I hate the police

This will get long. I just need to get this off my chest and shit.

For thanksgiving I decided to go to a friend's house for the break and hang out in St. Louis. I was super excited for months. I've never been to St. Louis and I was just stoked to not be bored at my house for a week.

The months prior to break, we had been making a list of everything that we wanted to do. My friend lives right in the city so he knew everything that was fun to do.

One thing on the list was to go a school and chill on the roof and just look off at an amazing view. The night before Thanksgiving we decide to check that off the list. So we pull into the school late at night, probably around 12:30 or 1. Mind you this is a school a little out of the city, a bit more suburbia if you will.

Well immediately things go wrong. Two cops pull in blocking us in. We were out of the car already (4 people all together) and the cops ask us why we're here. We told him we were just waiting for someone. Well I guess he must have thought that the one black kid with us was selling us drugs or something (must have been my friend's dreads) so we get curb checked, searched, and harassed for the next 30 minutes.

So instead of just telling us to get out of the county and go home the cop gives us a ticket of some sort. There's a little box that says trespassing that is checked off. We're confused by it because it says to show up to some court on the 20th of January. What the hell?

We ask him what this all is there's no phone number on the ticket or address, it just says St. Louis Court Systems. We asked him if this was a ticket or what we should even do. It says show up to court yet we live 300 miles away and we're just there for break, which he knew.

He then tells us it's just a fine and we can pay it through the mail...cool how much is it...."oh you have to call"...call who? There isn't a number..."look it up" *proceeds to get in car and drive away.

So it turns out the cop just straight up lied. Me and my two friends who all go to school in Indiana mind you now have to drive the 300 miles to St. Louis on a school day remember, missing at least two classes, probably five just because a dick county cop decides he wants to fuck over three kids because he's bored.

This to me is just a clear case that the police don't have your best interest nor give a shit about you. They don't care that 3 college kids have to drive and miss classes.

Sparknotes: got a "ticket" for trespassing in St. Louis while on Thanksgiving break. Ends up it isn't a ticket and I have a court date next Tuesday.

wow what a doucher! contest the crap out of that, drop a complaint on the cop saying he failed to inform you, hid information from you for no apparent reason, type searched you.... and how were you suposed to know your not allowed going on public school grounds on closing hours

sorry to hear that, that really sucks.   just wondering but were you goys being jackasses to them or telling them they cant do this or anything? or were you very yes sirno sir?  because alot of the time if you go down on your knees for them they will not give you a ticket.

Yeah I'm going to court and I won't plead guilty. Fuck that.

But we were angels to them complete "yes sir, no sir" And funny thing we were on our knees! With our hands on top of our heads while he searched us one by one.

Yes. I know a lot of people will disagree. But in my opinion and experiences the bad things outweigh the good ones. I think some started out with a noble cause but I think the police force has taken away too many rights of people and have begun to care too much about themselves and too little about the people they are SERVING.

But that's just me I guess.

well i am sorry for you but its because you have just happened to meet some police that arent the best. and by far, saying that the bad things out weigh the good things is probably one of the dumbest things i have ever heard, think of all the things they deal with everyday. and they have not taken away too many rights, if your doing something illegal, they have the right to stop you, as much as i dont agree with many laws, they still are just doing their job to enforce them. /rant

Basically, you GOT SERVED. (in a bad way of course). That cop just wanted to fuck some people over and it's sad that most cops have become that way. A lot of cops these days are just life fuck ups who are just power hungry and power tripping douche bags.

Don't get me wrong, my attitude isn't "fuck da police"... I have respect for the police (the few good cops left) that do their duty and aren't out there to screw everyone over for every little thing especially when the cops themselves break the law (ie I've seen many cops make turns without using turn signals and then pull over one of my friends and gives them that ticket).

Anyways... that's real shitty to hear man. Good luck with that bullshit.

on the ticket does it say summons?  If it does then you have to show up  but if it doesnt then you should be able to pay a fine

When they take polls to see who the next president is going to be do they survey the entire nation? No. They survey a smaller sample. Police are supposed to be a part of the community which in turn means part of your life. I have seen lots of cops and lots of stuff involving police in my life so far. From what my sample of police is, I came to that conclusion. A lot of cops can be dicks, but the ones out there truly serving the community and not being extreme douches are harder to come by from my OWN experiences. Sorry I don't live in the same neck of the woods as you....

not a huge fan myself in fact as to the cops helping you at a bar SPEAK NO EVIL and you wont be in a bar fight, dont go bragging about bullshit or fucking with people keep thy head low and you usually dont get fucked

What he said... it's like traffic court. Technically you have a court date, but you can opt to pay the fine instead. So unless you are summoned to court, you don't need to go.

Nah it's a summons. I guess technically I was arrested. At least that's what the officer said.

See that's what makes me mad. I was in the cop car giving him my information. I tried getting more information about it but he just kept saying just pay the fine and you won't go to jail. I asked him what he meant and said I was technically being arrested just that it was a minor offense so they don't even take me to jail, just give me a court date. But if I pay the fine then I don't even have to go to court. I've never heard of that in my life. I found out later that the whole part about paying the fine is complete bullshit, the cop just didn't want to explain himself.

It might be something with the tresspassing. I was busted skiing at powerlines that were private hunting property. I was pretty young but i remember for sure we had no choice about it and HAD to show up in court. Just tell em you were gonna do something harmless like skiing or manhunt or something. If they think your intentions might have been ill then they could throw you a larger fine probably.

its stupid, but they'll just tell you that ignorance of the law is no excuse.

but i really wouldn't be all that worried about it. They have much bigger stuff to deal with so you'll probably get a small fine at most

thats pretty much the stupidist thing ive ever heard. the only cops ive ever had to deal with were cool as shit. like when my friend got pulled over when we were out to lunch doing 55 in a 30. he was scared shitless; shaking and his face went bright red. the cop just fucked with him. he made him like swear an oath to new york state that he will never speed again, holding up his right hand and shit, then said that he was just fucking with him. he let us go and i laughed sooooo hard for a very long time.

but yea man, thats just terrible luck. and theyre not out to just fuck over a few college kids. the majority of cops arent complete assholes like the one you ran into. id just take note that some cops in the st louis area are assholes, and not do any shit like that again. but wow that really blows...

Most cops are pretty cool. In highschool we used to tell my friends cousin who was a cop about freshman and sophmor parties and he would go there and take the beer and we would split it with him.

Dont pay the fine or show up the court. It would be a waste of your time and money. Just dont get go to Missouri. You live 5 hours away, so that seems like an easy thing to do.
