Speeding tickets?

So do mountains really write these things if you ski fast? Or is that some tv shit from ski patrol?
Also does ski patrol almost seem like a joke to you when they film it at blue mountain? I mean it seems legit when its at crystal because they have a little avy danger and stuff.

i thought i was the onle one who actually watched that show but yea i think it is like a joke at Blue mountian is seems there like they have nothing better to do and they even have a speed gun or is that at crystal but anyways i was wondering the same think ive never really seen someone getting a ticket ive just seen mark out park guy tell gapers to slow down or get out of the park if you arnt going to do something.

I completely agree. The same thing goes for riding switch. I got asked to leave where I ski because my friend and I were riding switch. They said that it was extremely dangerous and when you aren't going forwards you have no control. Even though I have more control riding switch than 70% of my hill does riding forwards. Its complete bullshit in my opinion.

ya it was on tv were a kid got a speeding ticket for going to fast. But they cant give u a ticket cause it says there is not a speed limit.

I got one at park city two years ago when the mountain first opened...i was right below the junkyard on homerun (where it meets treasure hollow).  if you know where that is you know you can't be going very fast there.  the ski patrol must have been on acid.

I don't see how you could set a speed limit for skiing. How would you know how fast you're going?

Just issuing tickets for "skiing too fast" has the same issue as well. How do you quantify "too fast?"

Having said this, I'm sure there is a resort some where that has probably done this, but I'm sure you could easily take this to court an win for the reasons stated above.

i got stopped by 2 patrolers at abasin last winter, they had a speedgun and everything, took my damn lift ticket. it was ridic too, cause it was during lunch time so the runs were almost completly empty and i was completely in control.

man, it's because of the speed police that I d'load when skiing whistler. blue mountain patrollers get a hard on from yelling at you to slow down. i think they have issues.

very true. i used to race before i got in to freestyle so i'm quite comfy at speed. fell over on a speed run last year at 79mph on some thrusters. not a good race ski at all...

None of the patrollers at Blue legitimately know how to ski. They'll usually let you off if you're nice to them and apologize. Their biggest concern are asshat day trippers because most of them too easily find ambulance chasing lawyers who want to sue.

Ray Tuthill died this past year and left the mountain to his daughter. She's axed a lot of the employee perks. Expect what I said above about apologizing to ski patrol to slowly fade away.

the ticket is probably you loosing your ticket.  Back when I thought shredding groomers was awesome (I was really good at carving groomers) I hauled ass off an intermediate run onto the main beginner run and got a BIG warning.  Oh and I was the first down the run.  It was totally clear, no one was on the run and the ski patrol yelled at me and told me to stop.  He radioed in my name and I was on watch for the whole year.  They usually had SLOW signs at the merge of the two runs but they weren't up that early so I told him that and he said "Oh, I do not care.  I have seen you here very many times and you know to slow down there."  Whatever.  They never would have been able to take away my pass for that reason. 

My second argument is:  What is slow?
40mph might be fast for some people but if you put someone like Daron Rahlves up there, that wouldn't be too fast for him.  So really, "slow" varies for different people.  If there was a speed limit, how would you know how fast you are going?  You wouldn't. 

And for people who get in trouble for skiing switch.  That is so much bullshit.  Next time a patroller tells you that, look down at his skis.  If they have flat tails you need to ask: "When was the last time you skied switch?"  Most likely they will answer something like, I don't do that because it is a danger to me and the surrounding people.  If they have never skied switch how can they determine it's dangerous.  Tell them to watch a video of switch pow skiing and then see how they feel about skiing switch.

Oh I bitch them out every time I get yelled at for it. Its ridiculous, if I get yelled at for skiing switch completely under control on the groomers, why don't they come into the park and kick all the stupid ass gapers that ski right over the landings while you're in air or cut you off to get off the hill. I'd figure that's a much greater danger than someone skiing backwards.

At least the douchebaggery is everywhere.  You have to cruise a long, wide-open green at my home mountain to get to the main lift and i have had my pass taken for the day twice for bombing it switch.  I can ski switch a hell of a lot better than all those Texans......

last week at vail i got stopped by some dude in a slow zone. he was like do you know what you did. i was like i guess is was skiing too fast? hes like yes you were skiing to fast, you were skiing switch and you were jumping. i was like what the fuck? i went off a lip on the side of the run and spun to switch. so i guess that was my jumping. but i was thinking what part of a slow zone should i assume skiing switch and spinning around are illegal???? dude was gonna take my pass for it.

this just pisses me off.  isnt skiing supposed to be fun?

at my hill, all our patrolers are really chill.  some of them ski park and shit, and the rest just help when someone breaks something or gets hurt.  we never really get shit for skiing too fast or "out of control"

At the bottom of whistler they are savages about it. I came skiing down normally, and a mountain guy with a radio came running after me flagged me down and waslike SLOW DOWN!! Not only that but theres like 10 layers of these guys, so i got lectured by everyone after that. I dont mind going slow in slow zones for safety purposes, but that was just so ridiculous I had to laugh.
