I'm just wondering if anyone has non true twin tips(non symetical tip and tail) center mounted?? I have Salmon Teneighty Thruster currently mounted 2cm forward, I'm having a little trouble staying on rails, would it help if mounted them dead nuts center of the ski? I know this will affect my all mtn skiing by being that much more forward, let me know what some of you have done, thanks.
Center mounted still helps even if your skis aren't true twins. My skis are 112 in the front and 102 in the back but the suggested mounting spot is center so thats where I have them.
i wouldnt mount away from the suggested mounting point it will throw off the flex pattern in the ski as well as other things like the sidewall and all around shape of the ski, but if your only hitting rails with them i dont think you would notice to much
Yea i know if I go too far away from center that i would throw off the ski-ability of the skis, 2cm is all i wanted to go, they still ski great everywhere else.
I mounted my Scott P3s at true center and they rock. Unless you are into arguing edge bevels like the dudes on gapicski.com you will be pleased you did it.
moving your skis from reccomended to center, you'll feel a huge difference in your skis. i just did that to my AR6's a couple weeks ago, and here are my results:
my spin weight was much more even, and it became even easier to land switch (obviously)
switch ups/270s are much easier
but the my all mountain skiing has become increasingly more difficult with them. they just don't float above the snow as well, and i fell like when i hit unsuspecting bumps or i'm charging really hard, they have a tendency to knock me way back on the tail of my skis.
overall, i chose to do this because i am planning on getting myself a pair of rockered skis this season.
if you are a one ski guy, i would think really hard about it before deciding to remount your skis.
Yea im 2cm forward, dont notice any differance skiin all mtn but i know that these r not symetrical skis, maybe i just need to get used to doin rails and spins before i decide if i want to move them anymore forward. I do have another pair of all mtn skis the Blizzard AXP Ti which r awesome with 2 layers of titanium for this midwest ice conditions that we have out here.
Honestly, for the improved park ability you'll get,its not worth the degradation in performance in all mountain/pow ability. (in my opinion at least, not for everyone obv.) I'd leave them where they are. I dont know how far back the line is from true center ony our skis, but Its prob fine where it is. On my skis, (2008 line blends) I took the distance between true center and the reccomended line and divided it by half. This ended up being like 3.25 cm so I rounded down to 3 cm and there it is. It rides beautifully.
