IPOD battery help

so my ipod is pretty old, and the battery is lasting for shorter and shorter amts of time, iv heard you can send apple your ipod and they will put in a new battery, is this true? how much $$$?

Depending on the ipod you can get a cheap replacement battery off ebay

I had an ipod mini and changed the battery myself, worked a treat.

I've heard that you can call ipod and they will replace your battery for you though

If it is under warranty then i'm sure it would be for free. If it isn't under warranty, then i'm sure it would not be for free

Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPod purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $49 (iPod shuffle), $59 (iPod nano and classic), $79 (iPod touch) plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.
