There is skiing in Morocco, TGR went there in a movie a few years back, Anomaly maybe? Just googled and it appears the biggest resort is called Oukaimeden. Would be cool to go I guess, maybe just to say you have though, doesn't look like the best mountain ever.

^ yeah pretty sure it was Anomaly.

You can ski in Africa with the main resorts being in Morocco and South Africa/Lesotho.  You could also ski mountaineer the "big 2", Mount Kenya (5100m) and Kilmanjaro (Tanzania - 5895m) although there isn't much snow left of either.

As for skiing in the other places can't say anything about Morocco but watch Anomaly + read on the internet about them.  The same could be said for the South African resorts (except watching Anomaly).  I did some research into them when I in South Africa studying this time last year and most of them are small (1-2 runs/lifts) and a lot of the snow is manmade.   They are also at relatively high altitude - 3000m +.

Not much sand in Kenya ;)  Though if you do which to try and ski sand go to Namibia.  Around Swakopmund there is a crazy Sandboarding scene (apparently snowboards work better on sand than ski's do - I concussed myself twice whilst trying it).

You could "ski" on Mount Kenya but there isn't really any snow, Kilimanjaro is skiable if you feel like a dose of altitude sickness (not guaranteed) and 3-4 days of walking...

Still there is other sick stuff to do in Kenya but a lot depends on where you are (Coast is better/Masia Mara/Rift Valley is cool too).  Must say though it is a great country to visit (been 3 times) but not the greatest place to live (crime in the cities in pretty high these days).  Feel free to ask anything if you want anymore info...

hey man, thanks and +k. what brought you to kenya those 3 times? that's really cool. i'm hoping it will be fun, i'm gonna have to live there and face up to the crime in nairobi, but it'll be a life experience that will in the end be worth missing skiing for for sure. thanks for the info, i'll remember to ask you if i have any questions.

I saw some Warren Miller Behind the skis thing a long time ago and they skied Morroco. It looked pretty ghetto, not somewhere I'd like to ski. It looks like way too much effort to ski that terrain and snow. I guess it would be a cool experiance...

No worries.

Various reasons, mainly family holidays. 1st was 10 and half years ago (2 weeks - 1 week safari (Tsavo)/1 week on the beach (Mombasa), 2nd was another holiday (2 weeks 1.5 week safari (Masia Mara, Treetops, Nakuru, Ambolseli/rest on the beach (Mombasa) and the 3rd was a 4 week adventure trip which involved a safari (1 week), climbing Mount Kenya (1 week), building a school (1 week) and a week on the beach at Mombasa.

Guess after that I got a bit addicted as I have since been back to Africa 4 times (Tanzania once (4 months), Madagascar once (3 months), South Africa twice (once work (game ranger 1 month) and second study --> 7 months)).

No doubt if things are similar to South Africa then despite the crime it is still relatively safe to live (I lived in Pretoria whilst studying and it wasn't overly safe but I never felt unsafe).

For sure it will be a life experience, you will enjoy it, there is no where in the world that is quite like Africa (just go on safari).  I missed this season of skiing to go study in South Africa and for me all it did was make me more stoked for this season than any other (which is a problem being in the UK (Scotland) where there is minimal snow on any of the resorts atm).

I have most of my pictures from my trips over there on Flickr (see sig) however none of the Kenya ones are online as they were all film and I have lost them :/
