Trip....Vermont...Trip

ok so my dad is taking some time off and him and i are going on a trip for a few days into vermont..... i need opinions on were to go in vermont, somewere i have not skied before so excluding Smuggs and Killington

i was thinking jay peak? what do you guys think is the best place to go with a dad, no park needed.... the cheaper the better

Jay peak sounds solid, and if it happens to be snowing a lot I shredded bolton valley on a pow day once and it was super fun. It's a real small mountain but it's cheap, has fun terrain for it's size, and had a few run rails up for a few park runs here and there.

jay peak deffinately. stowe is also really good but is pretty pricey. there's also mount snow which is about average price for lift tickets and has awesome parks but not as much terrain.

Jay peak is almost always a hands down solid trip. Check out stowe if you can.

Plug the zip codes from the different resorts into a weather site and see where's supposed to be best.

Jay peak is supposed to be great, you could check out Sugarbush too. I've always heard people say stowe is for show, being that its pricey and not that great

also, and a pow day i heard Pico is the place to be, sick terrain and they don't groom

sugarbush for sure...i think its one of the best in my opinion...stowe is alright but it seems like its talked up a bit too much...i dunno though

jay is sick on a pow day but you can get really shitty weather sometimes and they have to close pretty much all the decent lifts....ticket price is reasonable if all the lifts are running

bolton is small, cheap, and has excellent skiing....but if you don't get pow you could get bored after a couple days

mad river glen is amazing on a pow day but is sketchy as hell after it gets tracked out because most of the runs don't ever get groomed. the lifts are old and slow as hell but are actually pretty cool. lift ticket is cheap plus there's no snowboarders!

sugarbush is close by and is also dope....i haven't skied there on a pow day but they had pretty good runs. they have a pretty decent park too. lift ticket is a bit more expensive than MRG

stowe is also close.....haven't skied there but i'm heading there next week so i'll keep you posted. i hear its good

killington has the most terrain and variety by far and they get a lot of snow. its also the most expensive.

your best bet in vermont is to play is by ear.....find out where the snow is and head there. hotels are reasonably cheap everywhere. check out grandpa grunt's if you go to jay. if you don't want to drive around vermont looking for snow killington is your safest bet. MRG/sugarbush/stowe would also be good

Well I go to UVM so I have friends that go to stowe and that go to Jay. I have a pass to Jay and I would definitly reccomend it. Already this season we've had some nice snow up there and its been sick. I remember one day this season where I was skiing fresh lines at 330 in the afternoon. It was by far the best east coast skiing I've ever had. I almost would rank it in the top 5 days of skiing I've ever had (impressive considering I go out west every february to various places).

Also there are absolutely no lift lines there. The only wait I've had is for the tram and it wasn't even that long. They also never even seem to check your pass so you might be able to get on for free. I kept my pass in my wallet and I've skied there 5 times already this season no problem.

The only negatives are that it kinda is in the middle of nowhere so you might have trouble with stuff to do at night. and the fact that it is pretty cold. But if you don't mind either of those things Jay Peak is the BEST!

when i go up i stay at a comfort inn in st. Johnsbury which is like a 40 minute drive away when you get up in the morning but there are a bunch of hotels right near the mountain.

Bolton is legit, i got the triple major pass again  this year which is jay, MRG, and bolton.  Ive already been to bolton 3 times over the other two.  Its a short drive from burlington, they have some nice runs, fun trees, and bumps too.  I skied there park for the first time yesterday, pretty decent tables if you can get the speed but the rail selection really impressed me.  They are trying to get the timberline side open next week too and there is a lot of good trees in there

indeed....the jet can be pretty terrible. its slow and the line can get very long. the tram almost always has a 5min+ line and can take as long as 30 min on a busy day. the flyer is the best lift they have simply because its a detachable quad...it also breaks down more than any other lift i've ever seen. no jokes, i can't remember a day last season that it wasn't stopped for a considerably long time. the chair is windy and cold and sucks when you get stuck on it

basically, on a pow day, jay is the best place to ski in vermont. on a shitty day, its the worst place to ski in the world.

if you're feeling adventurous on a pow day you could head north of the border to orford. its about an hour and a half drive from jay. its the cheapest, never busy, and has better lifts than anywhere in vermont. the runs are incredible on a pow day and the glades take 3 days to get tracked out. the best glades are hard to find but if you're heading up that way PM me and i'll tell you how to get to them

If you consider yourself to be a 'park rat' at least once a week or so, checking out Mount Snow is not an option, it is mandatory. Over 1/3 of the entire mountain is park. When the weather is somewhat cooperating jibbing around mount snow is a blast. I grew up riding there and their progression each year with their parks has been more than satisfactory.
If, on the other hand it snows more than 4", the mountain is primarily too flat to hold good speed and the most challenging terrain 'North Face' is not THAT challenging but gets skied out quick on pow days.

Take into consideration that all of New England to raped of snow the last week and it's dumping sleet then snow in southern VT right now. I can say Jay's recovering extremely well and higher elevations of Sugarbush and Stowe are getting hammered. The farther north you go, the better off you are.

yea that is what i have been thinking about, i think for the overall snow quality jay seems like my best bet, its also not suppose to get too windy there next week so that reduces the chances for lift closings

so ijust wrote this long thing out about what to do but it just got erased...to sum it up id heading from the south and it sound like your going north to jay, and if its snowing do sugarbush, than mrg, than jay you wont regret it

on a pow pow day stowe is nasty
i guess on a powder day everywhere is nasty, but if youre not skiing park, stowe has some of the best treeskiing and trails in the east
