12 yr old dies skiing

a local racer at my mountain was with a bunch of my friends at Denton for a race- they were jumping this little drop and then skking away like 20 times in a row- he came up- hit i- couldnt stop before a turn and launched off a rerally steep drop into trees- he had a helmet on but still died from head trauma- just goes to show you don't have to be doing crazy shit to get fucked up

i guess it goes to show, always scope your landing properly! this is not an attack on the kid, just sound advice.

My thoughts go out to the parents. Terrible to lose such a young life.

man those things realy make you think how lucky we are to do what we do and be alright, In general we push our personal boundries with this sport on a regular basis and when you see stuff like this happen from such a simple thing you realise how lucky you are

ya he was on the ski roundtop race team with my 12 year old sister.  I think she knew him accrualy.  She was also at the race but wasnt with him when it happened.  I heard that it was a green slope and he lost control, went off a cliff, landed and ran into a tree.  anyway my sister is going to the funeral and +++ vibes for his family.

i think it was 2 years ago, ski patrol found a kid around 12 years old in the woods with their scull cracked open. his skis were still on the trial. i wasn't told what happened. but that kind of shit suck

HAYMARKET, Pa. - A 13-year-old Virginiaboy has died in a skiing accident in north-central Pennsylvania.

Officials say Patrick Shire of Haymarket was skiing at the Ski Denton resort near Coudersport Saturday afternoon when he left the trail and hit a tree.

A spokesman for the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says Shire belonged to a ski racing team and was on a practice run when he crashed.

Other skiers heard the impact and came to Shire's aid. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury says Shire died of blunt force trauma. He ruled the death an accident.

Ski Denton is part of Denton Hill State Park, near the border with New Yorkstate.

that's really sad to hear. that's the kind of thing I love to do, and many here do too.. just roaming around finding fun stuff to jump off of, jib on, whatever. you never really know what can happen though, even from the small stuff. be safe out there.
