Agree 100%. And Macs can't play Jibbin'. Why even own a computer?
I love how Apple has everyone convinced that PCs are so much more virus and spyware susceptible, and I love how people continue to think Vista requires a supercomputer to run. Virus protection is a sham, for both Macs and PCs... so goddamn unnecessary unless you have the computer literacy of a chimp with Downs Syndrome. Viruses don't spontaneously download to your computer, you have to say yes to installing them. How dumb do you have to be...? And Vista is like every other Windows OS.. bloated with a ton of shit that makes it run slow. However, taking ten minutes of your time to cut out all the shit and stramline it will make it as fast and compact as anything Apple has put out. I'm not saying PCs are better, I'm just saying that you don't have to drop $1200 on a Mac to have a fast, reliable computer.
If you actually have a brain and have a decent knowledge of computers then you will be fine on either system and its really down to which you prefer to use. Personally I prefer to use a Mac ( I have both ) I prefer the GUI therefore I enjoy using it more therefore its less hassle a lot of the time.
For 95% of people it really does not matter which system they use because they don't really have enough need or knowledge to take advantage of one system or the other. The other 5% will pick based on their needs or just their preference, there like skis, they all get you down the mountain its just how you want to get down.
Personally if your having to ask this question or if your one of the stupid fanboys or either side then do this:
Buy a Mac if you have the money: there is less chance of you breaking it due to your lack of knowledge not meaning to sound harsh but a lot of people who think there "tech savvy" just do stupid shit all day long and should still just buy a mac because there super easy.
Otherwise buy a PC: still do a lot of things and have lots of good points too, build it yourself save and save a lot of money, or buy a Vaio if your gonna buy a laptop and want bang for buck or get something like a Asus if you want a good machine for the price.
Things to avoid:
Mac: Do not buy the upgrades from apple, they are enormously overpriced, do some research, alot of the parts in them can be upgraded by youself in about 5mins. Things like upgrading the ram and the hdd on a Macbook take 2mins of googling for a youtube tutorial, gooing the correct parts and then 5mins with some screwdrivers. Find the most basic model you can live with then do things like this to save you extra cash.
PCs: If you buying a desktop bite the bullet and build it yourself. Youll learn some skills and it really isnt that hard. You will end up with a much higher quality machine than the packages you get from PC companies. Just use google and research lots beforehand, alot of PC manufactures while they give you specced parts they are usally pretty crap quality. When you buy a dell for instance a lot of the machines dont have good enough PSUs, and the motherboards, ram and heatsinks tend to be shit. You could get quality parts made from quality manufactures for the same price as your dell machine and actually make it faster with a little bit of tinkering and overclock your processor a small bit because your machine will be able to handle it, again google this before going crazy. Dell lock the controlls for this stuff on their machines ( probably including XPS i dont know ) because the parts simply wouldnt handle it over time.
Meh hope that helps probably a bit of rant and the population of this forum probably wont care and just buy whatever some idiot has told them anyway but it will save you money/have a better time on the computer.
just one thing to add, there are more pc companies out there than the really large ones like dell, alienware, etc. there are a lot of companies who will proffessionally build very good computers with very good parts, or even build to your specs (maybe with their own cases). just because the larger companies suck doesn't mean the smaller ones are going to fuck you as well. i recommend Ya Gear, iBuyPower, CyberPower, DigitalStorm, etc. I know for a fact that these companies will give you a solid, professionally built PC for a great price.
of course, learning to build your own PC is great, but it can be intimidating for some and if you are not entirely confident that you know exactly what you're doing, or you're not entirely sure about your wiring or cooling setups, you should probably get a company like the ones i listed above to build for you.
Word, building it yourself saves so much money, I used to do that early in high school when I played way too many games. But for laptops, Acer all the way, off newegg.com. So much bang for the buck.
alienware was purchased by dell and now has the same components, they just cost twice as much.
and maybe mine was a lemon, but when i was younger, my brother and I purchased a computer from cyberpower, and it kept breaking due to poor build, but they may have changed their quality since then
which in itself is not very legit, seeing as how you can do the exact same work with a PC. it's not that Macs are better for graphic designers, it's that graphic designers are often Mac users.
See... this is just so wrong. An equally priced PC is just as good as a Mac (really lesser priced PCs are just as good, but I'm not trying to make the argument that one is better, just that...) it's all personal preference. I've used Macs pretty extensively and I have no problems with the OS or anything, they're good machines, I just like my PC... and I hate that just because everyone is a trendwhore they've been suckered into believing PCs blow, and I hate how every Mac user is a pretentious assclown about it.
I have a mac, and like it, but I'm not a pretentions assclown about it at all. I'm lucky to have gotten one. A PC would have been fine too. but all the little features about the mac are nice to have. Especially the shit the new trackpad can do. Overpriced, ya, if I didn't get this as like the most expensive gift I've ever gotten I wouldn't have bought it with my own money.
One Mac product that is epic though is the iphone, the 3g's are so sick.
Yes, which is why I own one as well. I was referring more to the kids who post nothing but Mac FTW or zomg no viruses or better for video editing. Not trying to single you out.
False. I bought my first Mac 2 years ago and unless something big happens (aka huge price drop) my next machine will definitely be a new PC with specs equal to a MB with a lower cost.
me too man i just like the way OSX is setup i just find most things easier on a mac i didn't buy my macbook because it was cool i bought it because i like it
and seriously calling everyone who owns a mac a trendwhore is stupid
I'm not, I'm calling dumb people who scream "MAC" because they don't know shit about anything and the only reason they got one is because they thought it'd make them look cooler trendwhores. Unfortunately this is a massive percentage of the Mac population, as evidenced by this thread. There are three or four people in this thread, yourself included, who I would not label like that. You seem legit. Everyone else has Apple's cock rammed so far down their throats I'm surprised they aren't growing fruit in their stomachs.
MAC all the way. and i'm not a trendwhore. i bought the computer for its music recording programs and abilities. i've been able to mix some pretty awesome demos with my mac. i love it
Yeah I should have added that, that is a good option for people who dont have the time or are intimidated by building a PC, I dont know what the US companies are like but this is what my little brother did and he saved around £400 (about $600 roughly) its not as cheap as building it yourself but it is a much more cost effective option and you get a much better machine.
Unfortunately the word Apple translates very literally into trendwhore. Just look at the iPod. Just look at their advertising. "Hey, if you buy a PC you're as cool as this lumpy old dude! If you buy a Mac, you're as cool as Justin Long, which is SUPER cool because he was in that shitty Accepted movie!" Just look at all the people who bought Macs because "Macs are cool". What they mean is: "Macs make me cool". And price is a pretty important factor, why would that not be discussed? Again, I have absolutely NOTHING against Macs, just the pretentious mentality of 90% of the brainwashed idiots who own them.
i own 3 pcs.
they are all about $1000 builds. and i can keep them at up to date tech speeds much faster than an average computer for about 200 bucks a year to make them unreasonably fast.
i am running linux on one of them right now. i write all of my papers and do all my school work on it.
i personally like pc's because i like to be able to use programs for things rather than taking 6 hours every day to find a program to use on my computer.
i also like to play video games. you cant even come close to playing the top games on macs.
bottom line. if ur a complete nerd, get a pc.
if ur a dumbass and cant take pictures off of a camera... buy a mac. so go tell daddy that you want ur icamera to take pictures of ur dick to send to ur GF so u guys can have iJack-offs all day long in front of each other.
about 95% of mac users only use about 5% of its potential.
about 80% of PC users probably use 90% of pcs potential.
their potential is about the same.
