progression of Big Mountain Skiing

Ok, so all over this board and magazine articles, people look at the progression of big mountain skiing happening from park skiers. Cr, Pep, and Pollard definitely had some some great segments this year in focused but in my opinion not only do they not ski lines like some of the big mountain guys, they dont seem to pull shit off as big as stuff. Ok, so my point is, morrison is truelly the only big mountain skier who is talked about as progressing big mountain with tricks. However, look at sage, the collins brothers, krietler, oakden, all of them have pulled bigger shit in big mountain skiing than any of the park guys. None of the park guys have even pulled inverts in movies in the line, theyve done it at the bottom(cr and pep) but they other guys are doing corked 7s, misties, lincolns, 7s, backs off shit in the line plus they ski better too. I think its great the park guys are trying but we should talk about the progression as a merger between both aspects, however, so far, i think the big mountain guys are leading the way.

I totally agree with that. The segments of park skiers (CR, Pep, Pollard) doing big mountin stuff is basically moving a jump out of the terrain park and onto a powder-covered slope. The true hardcore big mountian skiers are the guys who ski the most ridiculous lines, and do wicked tricks off of cliffs and other natural terrain. It takes a lot of skill to view a face from a helicopter and be able to find a crazy line, and then execute the run perfectly, through calculating when they need to ski to side to avoid a death-trap, or when to huck off a cliff that has a nice landing. Any skier can go huck some jumps on the 'big mountian' but it is those guys who are skiing the crazy lines and jumping the monster cliffs mid-line. Oakden is really pushing the limits although some if it just gets to a point where going any bigger is stupid and a death-wish. Big mountain rules!

One word: Sage. His segment in High Life was the most pergressive of the year. Period. Well, in my mind at least.

yup. hucking ugly rodeos off a cliff and then bombshelling on your back is *definitely* more progressive than Pep doing huge 5s, natural and unnatural, and landing switch in deep powder.

but for the record, seth, collins', sage, oakden and all the other big mountain guys have a lot of balls, and skill. but they've been skiing big lines and hucking shit for years. what pollard and pep are doing, that's progressive.

^ I know what you're saying, and I give them props for that. But what he is saying is that those guys (pep, pollard, etc.) are doing the cliffs in the faces and chutes, but they other guys (Morrison, Kreitler, etc.) will do the super hard lines with the super hard cliffs.

True, but for guys like Pep and Pollard, these were some of the first lines of their career. They have to start somewhere, and I believe in the next few years, those style tricks from the park will be transferred to 'seth like' lines. That will be awesome to watch. I think guys like Sage are allready doing that, and the park rats are close behind.

you know what i don't understand? why is park skiing considered so 'uncool' and BC booters so 'cool'? it's the same except they don't land switch as much...

I wasnt talking about bc kickers, iwas talking about natural terrian. cant believe i left out sage. The thing is pep fell landing switch in focused and it was at the end of the line where if he fell it wouldnt be as serious. I do think the bm guys like sage, collins brothers, and oakden do have some style too with there tricks. Plus theres also style of skiing the lines too. Watch the big mountain guys ski the line too, they have a lot more fluididy and style skiing. Im not saying cr and those guys shouldnt be trying this stuff, I was saying how the park guys are the only ones getting the notority of progressing big mountain skiing in the magazines when theyre a bit behind the big mountain guys.

Since when is park skiing considered 'uncool?'
Girls don't like sensitive guys. Since I don't treat women like objects, I have to treat objects like women.

Yea, i think skiing is going from the park to the bc kickers to the natural terrain and lines. Its always dope to see guys hucking off natural features, and ripping exposed lines and spines. Park goes off too, but i think Big Mountain is where its at. Ride On.

yeah i can definietly understand that, but what is so much better or harder abtou BC booters than a park table? it's a softer landing, and they almost never land switch in powder.
