and dont use limewire, it just has aids written all over it.. I always  download .zip or .rar files and if I cant find it on rapidshare I will sometimes torrent, but Ive found it much much slower.. Dont use limewire though.. go with .rar and get the whole cd!

for all of my music and video stuff i go to thepiratebay.org and use transmission to dl

this is what i do as well. and if i dont use pirate bay, i use demonoid

like people have said already, i use Transmission and it is IMO the fastest and simplest torrent downloader for the mac, has not failed me yet

if you want to download free music and have a mac use acquisition it wont give u any viruses and it is synched with itunes so it goes right to your library when it downloads

dont use torrents, they were always slow for me on my mac.. open up google, type in the album you want and the artist and also type .rar

download that from rapid share and open it with unrarx, simple, takes 3-4 minutes and you get the entire album.

I promise you its much easier.

I use Vuze for all my torrent d/l's. Full albums take only a couple minutes.

As for single tracks, I have used Acquisition for like 4 years.

is acquisition just for single songs using its own search function because i find it doesnt have a lot of songs and the songs it does have suck sound quality wise, also can you download torrents using acquisiton or do i have to get transmission?

you can actually use acquisition for torrents, but i would just download both. because i personally really like the extra features of transmission, like being able to pick just the files you want out of a torrent. also i find it just runs faster/more stable than acquisition

i'm pretty anal about the bit rate of my music (always has to be 192 in mp3/128 in aac or higher) so for full albums i usually use torrents, and single songs i just go straight to itunes music store. i gave up on acquisition a while ago, too much bs.

you can? didnt know that, idk i tried both out and just liked the feel/layout/simplicity of transmission. try em both out for a while, and see which one you like

remember that www.piratebay.org is a swedish tracker, current laws in sweden forbid companies to track illegal films and such if it is on a swedish tracker (server) because there is a law stating if one has a copy, you are allowed to share it :)

And i wouldn't worry much about getting viruses.

limewire is good for songs but i have a mac and i prefer acquisition..its the same thing as limewire but better

vuze is pretty legit, i still use limewire tho

i use limewire occasionally but mainly itunes store not very knowledgable with torrents but i have heard good things

I wouldnt use limewire for anything get learned and use bittorrent even if your using shitty sites like the piratebay your 1000x better off than using limewire, atleast use that frostwire shit if you really want to use it as it dusnt have spyware in ( or so I'v been told, to be honest I dont care avoid it all like the plague )

As far as bittorrent clients go its really dissapointing on a mac when coming from the wonders of uTorrent. You basically have two options, there are others but I would reccomend these two as they will report to the tracker properly etc

Azureus/Vuze - Good featured java based client, allows a bit of customisation and stuff but is completley ruined by that bullshit vuze player or whatever its called.

Transmission - Really good little client simple and very easy to use and is perfect for most people, only problem is lack of features and stats really.

how is the piratebay shitty? i routinely get full high quality albums movies apps and tv shows from there in relatively quick download times, and 98% of the time it has everything i'm looking for. share a better torrent site that has that much content with all of us please, i'm curious.

Piratebay is a public tracker meaning there is no control over what is uploaded. This means that a lot of the content isnt correctly tagged, is generally of poor quality, not always has the same files advertsied, the worst thing that there is no incentive to keep the content alive meaning that is is generally under-seeded and over leeched. The speeds on the piratebay are awful if you have a decent internet connection and result in you having to connect to mass amounts of peers in order to obtain decent speeds. Also alot of these sites like piratebay, isohunt etc are full of crap, adverts and other rubbish which isnt a good idea to go browsing on.

Good private bit-torrent sites are regulated, and will have complete volumes of material. This is generally because a lot of the content comes from "the scene" where groups release material according to a set of rules and releases are "nuked" (removed from circulation) if they do not meet these criteria i.e. sound is poor or of low volume or watermarked or whatever. The file quality/type is always clearly defined making sure you can always select the quality you want. Plus it only takes one or two people to give high speeds as people seed effectivley. They are also released as soon as they become avalaible and generally around a lot before you will see them on public sites as the files generally filter down to someone who then takes the credit for it.

There are lots of reasons and it is hard to explain untill youve used these sites and it is hard to come by invites if you dont know the right people and I guess if public trackers are your only option then its better than nothing but good top-level bittorrent sites work extremely effectivley and are run very well, places like the piratebay etc are just a mess of illegal content however if you dont want to put in the effort of helping others then those sites are fine but you pay for it in a poor service. As for examples sites like ScT and others like it are amazing and you could easily max out 100mbit connection on anything and alot of content is relased within seconds of pretimes. For music waffells and what are good for music and have extensive collections but dont come close imo to oink which they replaced. Seriously the amount of quality content avaliable on these sites is ridiculous, most albums on waffels etc will come in V2, V0, 320 and FLAC and there is a could amount of alternative formats aswell. They also insist on minimum quality standards, and heavily moderated, alot of the files on priatebay etc are 160, 192ish quality sometimes you might strike lucky but to me its a worthwhile service these other sites offer.

I highly suggest people get on to private sites and spend the time learning to use them as youll find it a much better service and get the support you need.

yeah ive got a macbook too and ive used limewire to get like 3000 songs and nothings happened to it so maybe im just lucky but its been fine
