Riding and the flex on your boots

riding the 175 makers, and the lande jib concept boots from two years ago... When i ride i feel like im stiff as a pencil, should my boots have a ridiculous amount of flex to maximize riding switch, and normal stance for that matter? I feel as if its taking a toll on my knees...
how do i make my boots have more flex, and that should make it easier on rails? I always buckle my boots up at the end of the day, maybe they mold tight or something, fuck i need some pointers, just holler

Yeah i've been thinkin about giving my boots more flex. I ride Pro Models but i feel they are still a bit stiff. i think its quite easy to get them softened. They have a 95 flex, what does everyone elso ride on?

i dont know, i think different companies may have different scales for stiffness. take them down to your local store. Are there metal pins gong into the boot just by the ankle? I think you can replace them with hard rubber ones and that makes them softer

yeah well im stuck with these boots, i mean they are good boots, but I dont have the loot to drop into this problem, i just need to fix it, cheaply..... and does anyone know if the lange boots can be heat molded?

most boots have a little alen key operated adjustment on the side of the top cuff that you loosen and tighten in order to decrease or increase flex. whatever you do dont buckle them looser, thats so unsafe, you could snap an ankle or break your toes so easily that way. the boot should be snug around your whole foot but you should be able to pivot the cuff back and forth a little bit when you lean forwards and backwards.

if your boots don't have what ^ is talking about, get a rotory tool with a grinding bit and take some of the plastic out of the back of the boot. our ski school's head coach does this for his smaller racers, it works really good!

ya there is an allen screw on the left side right under the 2nd buckle.. this is what ur talking about right? but i dont wanna mess with it, and decrease it to much or something...
I am also 6 foot 185... what should my flex be at for best park riding?

2 things. you know on the back and there is a knob that says walk or ski, keep them on walk. it gives me more back and forth movement in the ankle area. also, do not use your bottom boot straps. they dont really need to be there, it fells more comfy and u can flex a little more

if i am correct, there should be 2 allen screws on the back of your boots. i have banshee 9's from the same year, i take the allen screws out when i am skiing park for more flex, then if i am going to a real mountain like in VT or somethin for a trip, i put em back in so my boots are stiffer. that seems to work well for me. also, you can dremmel away some of the inner boot in the back of the cuff like someone above said, but take em to a shop for that

twix 182 is wrong. you definitly should not put your boots on walk mode, and also not all boots have that feature. and not buckling up the bottom buckles will either get them snapped off, or get your toes broken when you land a big jump(cuz your foot will slide forward into the little space there is in your boot and crack your toes inseconds, ive done it trust me)
if you have the alen key adjustment thing just use that. thats what its for dude they wouldnt have it there if it was unsafe to mess with.

I don't know what those boots look like at all but that screw probably doesn't control the flex. I'm thinking thats the canting adjustment. Is it right on the pivot point under the second buckle from the top and on the side of the boot that faces out? could be way off but just a guess

just talk to a ski racing coach. they know a shitload more about boots than you will ever know. When I was eight, my race boots sucked ass, and my coach drilled out the inner cuff, messed around with the cant (side to side lean), and fixed up the footbed with duct tape and pennies. The next day, they skied perfectly.

Hey Scotland, I've got promodels too. They have screws in them that you can take out to soften them up, and put back in if you are going BC. Check it if you haven't allready.

I haven't seen the jib boots up close, but with all the other Lange boots I've seen, the allen key is for canting adjustment.

snonasty, it works for me the way i do. i dont know bout u, but those bottom buckles really messup my feet with em. sure it might possibly break, there is a possibility of anything happening, but it's been doin good sofar. and for me anyways, having it on walk makes it so i canmove my ankle back and forth a little. i could be a good or bad thing to do, but so far it's workin good for me.
