Replying to skiing video Game
Ok, I have been reading several of the posts about the idea of a skiing video game. I think there are some really good ideas out there, however, there needs to be more organization. I know we all have different opinions about the game, but we need to come to somewhat of a consenus. First off, if 30 people send poorly thoughtout proposals to major video game companies, it will only cause these companies to overlook a good proposal when we send out.
Ok, so we need some basic ideas of what we want in a game. First off, as of right now, it does not really matter what skiers we want in the game. This type of feature of adding in characters is easy to program in at the end. Look at Madden where a whole rookie class is added in the summer. It is more important that the foundation of the game can be laid down.
Career Mode
I personally think this is completely neccessary. Every sports game has one and in order to compete in this market, this game will need one too.
As others have said, the career mode just start with the creation of a skier, where you will control his career. The career mode should start where you can set the skiers height and weight as well as skill points or strong points. Therefore, the you could specialize your skier at the beginning. Think of the stat point distribution similar to a game like diablo, where you can assign your amount of skill points to shape your skier(pipe, big mountain, rails). This feature will add diversity to the game and give a long play value because most people will probably want to try different character combinations.
Additionally, there should be a feature where a skier will progress more in a stat area that he users. For example, if you ski a lot of pipe runs, your skier will naturally become better at the pipe. After a certain amount of set points, you will be allowed to add a skill point to a specific skill branch, where each point spent would give your skier a new trick.
Ok, personally for my preference of play, I think the game should be somewhat realistic. I don't want another jmmt. I haven't played amped, however, the last ski/board game I enjoyed was 1080 due to its more realistic approach. I agree the game needs a little exageration but you should not be able to grind the golden gate.
Many of you hae discussed the career mode path, such as competitions, mountains, and filming. I think a lot of really good ideas have been mentioned. I tihnk a variety of competitions would be a good idea, as well as a lot of other pro skiers competing. In a lot of alternative sporting games, there are only 8 athletes in the game. I think having 20 or 30 skiers would add a lot of diversity as well as in the career mode, the computer would create skiers who are breaking into the scene along with your character so you character will keep having new competition every year. The real skiers too, would progress or get worse do to injury and age ad competition results.
Things like injuries, sponsers, filming, money have all been mentioned before so I'm not going to discuss these. I liked the meantion of starting at a small mountain and being able to work your way to large, real mountains. I think maybe, in order to move to say mammoth, you need to buy a house there so you need money to do so. You should also be able to pay for heli skiing trips and things like that also, along with your sponsers and filming companies paying for it.
Also, one person mentioned an online game. I think this would be a great additional feature. For example, there could be online ranking and competitions.
I tihnk an online petition would be a good idea. We have 20,000 some members on this site, we could put ads in ski magazines about supporting this idea,
ill finish this later
