Is this bad for my camera?

I just bought the Canon Rebel XS and tomorrow I'm headed up to the hill where it's going to be in the -20 celsius range.. Would it be bad for my camera if I were to get out of a heated car, into the freezing cold into a heated chalet etc.? Also like in and out of my carry case bag (which I plan on loading with hand warmers..)

yeah it can be...especially bringing it from cold to hot, stuff can condense inside the camera...let it transition gradually by leaving it in your bag for a while.

Yes it can be bad for your camera. Like the guy above said gradually expose it to the cold don't just whip it into the cold right out of your car.

Sealed bag when going cold -> Hot, take spare batteries, with that temperature you'll need them, make sure the lens and body are the same temp when swapping on / off, ummm, so long as you don't drop it you should be good to go, happy shooting !

do you mean shooting in the snow ? if so then yea, what I found most useful (surprisingly) was those mittens with a removable finger section, the ones girls wear, gives you easy access to the trigger without getting cold hands, sounds like a minor point but at those temperatures 30 to 40 minutes of no-glove shooting is painful, I just jacked a pair of gloves from my gf haha

Oh gee, i wish i had those gloves when i was shooting at a basin and loveland last week. At least one of my cameras is weatherproof though.

I use my 40D for winter / ski photography, 6.5 shots a second and it's bulletproof.

It's -20 degrees F out today which means I can't go backcountry and film because my camera records to shitty ass miniDV tapes that I hate oh so much.
