Amazing BC survival story/rescue

21 year old snowboarder, Jamie Martin, an Ontario native was snowboarding on Seymour Mountain (Vancouver, B.C.) Dec. 29th when he accidentally found himself in unmarked terrain. Northshore Search and Rescue was called in after staff noticed his car being parked overnight.

He was found yesterday cold and very close to freezing to death, but alive. He was taken to VGH for treatment and has now been released to continue rehab at his home in Ontario with his family.

yea that doesn't really make him stupid for going off course, just adventurous.  This adventure just got him really cold is all.

no, it makes him kind of stupid. What if he were killed in an avalanche? He should have had some extra food with him or something. That being said, props to the guy for being a badass and making it out alive. Its really impressive.

My buddy and I were up at Seymour that night and we saw the helicopters and sleds tear up the mountain looking for him.

MY question though, is that if someone who was apparently "good" at snowsports, decided to go into the back country to begin with.
The stability is the worst it's been in a long while and with all the people (highly trained people no less) getting PWND by mother-nature and her army of avalanches, it's just plain retarded to be out there.

Well he didn't choose to go in the "backcountry"
If you read the article it tells you that he was skiing brockton chair, which for those of you that don't ski seymour is a small chair located on the top, backside of Seymour. He was riding one of the runs on the edge and found pow so he followed it down thinking it would lead him to the bottom of the chair. It didn't and this is when he made the decision to try board from there to the lodge at the very bottom of the mountain. You can't get from Brockton to the Lodge and thats how he got lost.

So he wasn't equipped for the BC because he didn't think he would be boarding in the BC. Yah?

that doesn't mean anything. the article made it sound like it happened just like that. obviously if it was that easy to get lost, other people would have gotten lost before him. but he must have fucked up big in some way that the article isn't saying because they want to sensationalize this spicoli kids story.


if you're going into unknown terrain. take a buddy. don't go in on a whim.
