Camera help

i just got a new video camera for christmas.
its HD but it records on to tape it also records on to memory card.
just wondering what the quality is like on tape and what is it like when you upload it.
i know i could just film something and see but its still in box and if tape quality is shit on tape i am guna sell it

What camera is it? It probably shoots HDV which is good quality.
