Eldora Mountain resort regrets to inform the public that Brian Mahon, General Manager of Eldora, was shot and killed this morning at approximately 7:30am at Eldora. The shooting was a random incident by an Eldora employee. It is our understanding that the Eldora employee had a gun while in a morning meeting and fired the gun into the ceiling. Brian was in the location at that time and walked through the door after he heard a shot fired. The employee turned and shot Brian and then fled the scene. Immediately 911 was called and Boulder County Sheriff and other government agencies responded and were able to apprehend the suspect who was in turn shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies.
All of our thoughts and prayers go out to Brian’s family and friends of Eldora Mountain Resort at this time of great sadness and loss. A memorial fund has been set up in Brian Mahon’s name at the Mutual of Omaha Bank in Nederland.
Having spent the day in shock, the employees of Eldora have decided the best thing to do to memorialize Brian is to open the ski area tomorrow with the slopes groomed "Brian" perfect.
