About two weeks ago I learned rails. I learned on a baby rail, like 1.5 ft high. anyway, i'm getting pretty good on that... and if i want to move to a bigger rail that we own... how do i do it? is it any different? do i need more speed? less speed? help me out here.

usually if ur startin rails you tend to go slower to rails. which is sick if you do the rail slow...but they are easier if you go faster. You also might wanna lean back a bit as a beginner at em...which is natural, so stay forward and committed. and committ to the full 90 turn too which is also really popular mistake.

i say start out with more speed, then you can always slow it down when you are starting to get the hang of it.

start with more speed, not too much though, stay forward and keep your knees bent its much easier if your a little bit low. also keep you feet spread apart pretty good, makes a huge differance if you ask me

And always focus on the end of the rail so that you slide the whole thing...

um yeah slow slides look a lot better that fast 1s also just get the hang of it and know the rail is ur little bithcH!

okay soo... go fast? i've gotten some... slow looks cooler... but um... which is easier and SAFER for the first time on big rails??

faster.. you can pretty much hit it with the same speed if the rails are the same lenght. Height shouldnt have any affect as long as you get of the jump and onto the rail with enough speed.

well this sounds like a stupid answer, but go a medium speed... fast is easier but more dangerous, slower is safer but harder...just go at what feels the most comfy speed
also, lean forward definitey, and COMMIT
you'll kill yourself if you don;t commit

keep your body together when you hit the jump into the rail.
like try no moving your upper body and absorb or push on the jump in with your legs to get more or less air to jump right onto the rail instead of jumping higher and having to absorb the impact of the landing onto the rail.

Now would be a great time for you to also learn un-natural before you get too use to sliding one direction. remember the first couple of days on the hill may set a standard for the rest of the season so step it up.

yea definitely, if you get too used to naturral it makes learning unnnaturals much harder

your best bet on moving to bigger rails is try an a-rail, i think they're easyer, but the biggest thing to rails is...commit, most rails are really easy if you just commit to it

I know it's been said but seriously, those who said DON'T LEAN BACK have great wisdom. Pretty much every time I've ever bailed on, was racked by etc. a rail it was because I leaned back. I especially have to watch this when I do longer rails as sometimes I subconciously lean back gradually as I go along the rail and my feet slip out from under me at the end (which sucks ass because that means you fall on the rail which hurts like a bitch, especially if you're all lanky and bony like me). I think part of the reason this happens to me is that I'm used to sliding shorter rails which can often allow you to get away with things like leaning back too much that will kill you on a bigger and or higher rail.

look at the end of the rail while sliding it, have a wide stance but not to wide, keep ur hands down and stomp that shit

Yeah, i slide a pretty short rail... and i tend to keep my legs together because of my past gymnast experiences, and i really have to concentrate on that. I think that is why i lean back sometimes. I let my legs get in front of me. AHH! thanks, ill work on it.

definitely look at the end of the rail. If i dont look at the end i fall towards my toes every time. comitment to full 90 degree turn is also important

with angled rails, its best not to carry too much speed. generaly take less than for a flat rail b/c the angle of the rail will give you speed. for kinks its all about weight placement and speed. generaly try to stay low with a wide stance on rails, knees bent, always try to watch others to judge speed if you can.

haha. good to hear. Um, i didnt fall at all because i have good balance i think. But my bro's said that you'll fall the first couple times... then slowly pic up on it. Dont worry, just keep practicing... Dont look at your feet (in case you were) look at the end of the rail.

Today I railed first time a real rail...I cleared the whole thing on my first try... before that I have only railed shitty home rails what are like 2m long and 30cm high :D

the #1 thing is never look at your feet. you will fall, no matter what. keep your eyes on the end of the rail. when you land on the rail, KEEP YOUR FEET APART. a little bit wider than shoulder width is always good. and to help keep you from leaning to far forward or to far back, always try and keep your bases flat on the rail. one, youll slide better; two, you wont mess up your edges; and three, your chances of going to the back or front are waaaaay less. and if you go faster, you will be more scared so you will commit more. and if you dont commit, youll eat shit. when you fall going fast, your mistakes are excentuated, so you be able to see easier what you did wrong. and it looks better.

i got out and sessioned one of the rails at my mountain today, got switch on and 270 on dialed now. basically, first you have to commit to the rail, pop up and make sure you get the full 90, that makes it so much easier. keep your feet about shoulder width, maybe a little wider, and make sure you land on the rail with it right about at the ball of your foot, then just keep lookin at the end of the rail, oh and stay low
