dreadlocks can be cool, but not if your white. I'm sorry it just doesnt work. I once thought about growing dreadlock but then i realized i was white. Also they are pretty nasty if you dont do it right. Also they are pretty hard to get if you dont have curly hair. or if your white..

once again, you succeed to infuriate me. most likely, also ds91260 and some others who come close to thinking along the same lines as I. OF ALL PEOPLE, especially living in fucking hell, Ohio, where I do live, I'd expect you guys not to do this. I know we all live ina world of stereotypes, but that situation is REAL REAL bad where I'm from, worse than other places, and I know because I've been to other places. NS is kind of my getaway from this real-world-ohio situation, it's my escape from my daily life of stereotypes. and once again, you all manage to just piss me off in your stereotypical 'i want to be different' attitude. get your act together and be yourself.

Anyone hating on dreads can shut the fuck up right now. Not liking them one thing, but saying someone shouldn't have a certain HAIRSTYLE because of the ETHINICITY or CREED is FUCKING RETARDED. It's just a hairstyle, just like anything else. I can't even fucking believe how disgusting you people are.

But way to go buds dreads are rockin'. I used to have them but sadly I got rid of them sometime this fall because over the summer I didn't maintain them very well, and they were chuck full of sand and salt water... haha. But I am thinking that when my hair gets just a little bit longer I may get them again. As for warm hats, I just looked around at a few places and found a big hat. I don't think you'll have much of a problem you could also just look online for something. I'll get a picture of myself up here soon from this summer when the humidity made my dreads HUGE. Pretty funny stuff.

Personally, I hate it when anyone other than a Ras ta Farian (and don't give me shyte about how I spelled that, if you acually knew anything about Haile Selassie I/Ras ta Fari/Prince of Juah, you wouldn't be giving me shyte) or a Nazir wears locks.

And I hate the fake Rastas worse (you can always tell - real Rastas don't allow their locks to be seen by anyone other than their immediate family, and sometimes not even they).

I don't care what race you are, as long as you're either Ras or Nazir.

Yea, dont get all pissed at me, I really do thing dreadlocks are cool, but the just dont really work on white people, its just wierd. I thought about starting them when my hair was long but then i took a long hard look at it and realized it would be stupid. I think dreadlocks should be reserved for Rastafaride and whatnot.

And FYI dreadlocks date back in history in a lot more than rastafarianism. Ancient monks of many Eastern civilizations would have dreads as a symbol of wisdom and/or priesthood. In other civilizations women would get dreads after there child bearing time was over as a sign of that. It's not just the rastas. Get up on your history.

yea, i back combed them. and waxed them for like a month. then u dont do anything to them. and when i had them i took a shower everyday, washed my dreads every 3-4 days. if u wash them too much, they will get too dry and fall apart.

If you actually bothered to read my entire post, and if you were capabl of reading a Bible (pref in Hebrew and not poorly translated English), you would know that I did mention one group of people who existed long before Ras ta Fari/Haile Selassie I was even born.

That's a moot point, however. Yes, Rastafarians, Nazirites, and Ethiopian Orthodox Priests aren't the only ones in history to lock their hair. They are, however, the only religious groups left who do so. It annoys the hell out of me to see any symbol with spiritual signifigance turned into a fashion statement - even more so with blacks than with whites, since frankly, white folk wearing dreads as a fashion statement isn't as disprespectful as blacks treating them as the antithesis of Euro-centric standards of beauty.

So what if it's religious? A lot of things are religious. Matzah for instance, I eat matzah on a regular basis and it's a food of the hebrew and I am not at all jewish. But it doesn't matter because it's food, just like dreadlocks are just a hairstyle. Bandanas are a symbol of membership to a gang but how many people wear bandanas who aren't in any gang? A lot.

Actually, massoth aren't religious at all. Sure, I (and any other moderately observant Jew) has to eat it during Passover, but we know the bread itself holds no religious value or symbolism. Frankly, it's no different than injera (Ethiopian flatbread) or bread baked by Bedouins to this day.
