Sport's Hallowed Grounds

What do you consider to be the most hallowed grounds of sports?
I drove past lambeau field today on our way back from Door County, and was thinking how awesome of a place that is to have in this depressing of a state. I went to Fenway Park over the summer, and was in awe of the sheer atmosphere there.
Here's my top 5 in no particular order:
Lambeau Field (Green Bay, Wis)
Fenway Park (Boston, Ma)
Old Trafford (Manchester United, England)
Madison Square Garden (NYC)
(Personal Bias- Camp Randall Stadium, Madison Wis) just because it dates back to the civil war.

Fenway easily is the greatest baseball park/stadium hands down. I think nothing tops lambeau in the NFL in today's world, as alot of teams play indoor, or in brand new facilities. If you look back at pictures from the Ice bowl in 67', then look at pictures of lambeau today, the seating bowl literally looks the same. I went to a badger game at Michigan Stadium this year, and thought the big house was up there too in history, except there really wasn't much to the stadium other than the 100,000+ seats.

i think to americans it's fenway at #1, and europeans would undoubtedly say Old Trafford or for that matter any of those old soccer stadiums. Highbury, Stamford Bridge, Anfield, all historic places

candlestick park? i think thats what its called, where the 49ers play now, and where the giants used to play (baseball giants) like willie mays...and joe mantana...plus i think thats where the Beatles had their last concert?

fenway has a certain badassery that cannot really be matched by many places, and I hate the red sox

for football, no question. harvard stadium, that thing is 106 years old made of pure ivory covered cement.

"Soccer matches also took place at the stadium during the 1984 Summer Olympics. pretty solid history too, place is cold as balls and 'the game' (harvard vs yale) is one of the countries best and most rivaled games in any sport

because it was cheeper to build a new one that was up to todays stadium standards than it was to upgrade old yankee stadium. its fucking ridiculous if you ask me. the stadium which has hosted the greats of the babe, mantle, dimagio's speech. even ali boxed there, 2 popes held mass there. and the new stadium holds less than old yankee stadium, when in old yankee stadium every game you had people standing in the walk way. its fucking insane why they would tear down such a monument to the sport of baseball.

Look at all the glory hunting Mancs saying OT. I must admit though if I had to choose one English stadium for this it would be Old Trafford. I don't exactly consider Stamford Bridge or Highbury ''hallowed grounds''.

Still, even OT has NOTHING on stadiums like the Maracana and the Bernabeu which would be my picks for sports most famous stadiums. I like the Montreal Forum too.

for all the soccer stadiums mentioned already, i cant believe no one has said Wembly yet! that place is fucking legendary!

aside from that, i would have to put penn state's Beaver Stadium somewhere on the list

i still can't believe the tore dow yankee stadium i know it was cheaper and everything to build a new one...but i really can't believe that...it is with out a doubt the most hallowed ground in sports guys who revoliztionized not just baseball but all sports were there...god popes holding masses there thats crazy, its so sad really.

this one may not really count but how about the colleseum? gladiators!!!

Because this is America, where we have to keep up with asinine safety regulations so that Planet Fatty over there doesn't fall down the steps, which are of slightly different dimensions than the steps at his home, and sue them for all they have.

there is NO way....NONE that WRIGLEY FIELD beats out fenway, you may say it just cause your a mets fan or whatever, but its just not possible....what has happeend there in the last 10 to 15 years? what has happened at fenway (broke the curse with amazing 9th inning comebacks, hr derby, all star games ((in which 2 boston players went back to back in hrs)) ), so yeah..................

i'm gonna agree with yank's stadium as a biggie. i still don't have a top 5 yet. fenway is another one. anybody mention wrigley yet? i think that is a cool place (even though the fans may be dicks)

Fenway ftw

...another that has only been mentioned maybe once in Notre Dame Stadium with Touchdown Jesus in the background....pretty freaking cool, even though they suck now.

1977 game six of the world series Regie Jackson hit 3 home runs in one game which helped the yankees gain their first world series since 1962

And yes you do have boston beating the yankees in the 2004 ALCS which game seven was hosted in yankee stadium and the sox won 10 - 3 i believe


But seriously, there is no way fenway park tops yankee stadium for history and its "hallowedness" maybe obviously now it does since yankee staidum is gone

and let me toss this out there, i hate the yankees, and i hate the redsox...i love the twins.
