Question on vx1000 and mac

ok so me and my friend went to capture clips from a vx1000 onto final cut with a mac. but it is saying that there is no camera conect, when clearly the firewire cable is plugged in to my computer and the camera. so then we tryed my digital camera and it imported fine. someone help
