Soft skis?

so yeah i know i have been posting alot about the scratch fs lateley but i'm porbably buying some and i wanna know if its the right choice and i keep hearing things about them so i have constant questions about them.

So i hear that they are very soft (like noodles) and is that good or bad? and what are they made of? on the site it says that they are made of some THC (triple hybrid core)or something. can someone tell me what material that is? and also just the scratch (not fs or bc, just scratch) is made of wood, shouldn't that be stiff? so the scratch (not fs or bc) should probably be abit stiffer? and if not, then what other skis would be in the same price range that would be good?

I heard fs'sss blow up when you ski them.

Scratches are soft, because they are designed as dedicated park skis, which means they don't really need high speed stability, or super carving ability. They will be forgiving on landings, they will butter ok, and they are pretty easy to swing. Take them out of the park, and you will notice that they can be easily over powered by hard carving. THC is a combintation of wood and foam. Foam skis generally suck. Wood skis can be either super stiff (Mad Trix) or super soft (Skogens) or anywhere in between, depending on the type of wood.

theres a demo this weekend at louise but i can't go...so just the plain scratches would probably be stiffer then?

my friend just got a pair and he loves them, as coyote said they are really forgiving on landings, but you probally should go demo a pair first.

i can't demo any so i'm just relying on opinions and facts here. so the scratch (not fs or bc) would probably be stiffer then?

dude there isn't a plain 'scratch'. There is the scratch BC(backcountry) that is wider for the backcountry and the Scratch FS(freestyle) for park.

not necessarily...it could be a soft wood. honestly, i don't know anybody who's ridden the cheaper scratch, so i wouldn't know for sure. the scratch fs is a good park ski. i've ridden it, i generally liked it. the scratch (no fs) has the exact dimensions, so i'm guessing it will have a similar feel. the flex will just be different.

aclsarescary, yes there is a plain scratch this year. I am emailing rossignol about the wood it is made of. But wood is generally stiff. Right?

nah man. that's what i've been saying... wood is not 'generally' anything. it really depends on the ski, and the type of wood, and the layup of the fiber glass, etc.

The stiffest skis out there ARE wood, probably with some kind of titanal or carbon bands. There are super stiff wood skis out there (V-pros, MadTrix, $frnt, Armada). There are also a lot of super soft wood skis out there too though, Line 1260's or Skogens for example, or Seth Pistols.

well the measurements and stuff is all the same on the scratch and the scratch fs. So its probably the same wood as in the fs but without the power foam or watever. so the foam probably adds alot of flex and stuff. so just the plain wood could be stiffer

i'll go to the local ski shop and see about it. Cause if this is true then i'm just going with the normal scratch. its cheaper has the same dimensions, and is probably stifeer. people will be like ur gay cause u couldn't afford the fs but in reality the normal scratch is better (in my opinion) if the whole wood thing is true. i'll have to go and find out
