1. Get real ski wax. You can usually find a brick on universal wax for like $20 or so.
2. Any iron will work but the best are the ones without holes.
3. Heat the iron up to the temperature that it says on the box of wax. For swix universal it is 140 degrees.
4. Press the wax against the iron and let it dribble off the end onto the ski. Move it down the ski so you get dribbles of wax on the base.
5. Take the iron and move it across the base of the ski until the wax is smooth and covering the whole ski.
6. Let the ski sit for about 20-30 minutes to cool.
7. Scrape the ski and you're good.
A few more advanced steps is using a structure brush and cork but you don't need that right now.
As for scrapers, you can use anything with a 90 degree angle edge that is plastic preferably.
