AVI to MP4 for mac

so i was wondering if there is good software that converts avi to mp4 on my mac so i can watch movies and shit on my iPod. The way i currently do it is to make it into a dvd and use handbrake to rip it off. That takes way to long so i need a faster way to do it. Free is best....
