and forgive me if its real n00b but i watched one of my all time favourite ski films again last night, Aspen Extreme, and i realised i've never really questioned the whole 'out-of-bounds' thing. I know the film is pretty old but im assuming the law that says going out-of-bounds is illegal has changed in America right? as far as im aware we've never had the law in europe. i was just wondering what the deal is these days? is it different depending on which state your in? is aspen still chasing guys who go off piste?
i know at my mountain, no where near aspen, if you go out of bounds and ever need a help this is what happens:
1. you get your passed clipped if you have a season pass.
2. you have to pay for you rescue. so gas, time, and whatever else they need.
3. you get a fine. i have no idea how much, but i know its quite a bit.
You can go out of bounds dude..some resorts have it just through gates...but you can. Going on a closed run in early season in Colorado us punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a $1000 fine.
me and my buddy almost got our passes cut because we went behind a tree to do this tiny little drop. seriously we wernt even 2 feet off the trail and the patroller got super pissed at us
