Waxing question

So I got a Purl wax kit for christmas. So, I'm a noob at waxing.
To make sure I wouldn't screw up waxing, I tried it first on some shit skis that are like 120cm and I road when I was 5.
Basically, everything went well until I went back out to scrape. After I scraped and brushed and scraped and brushed etc. There are still little spots of wax.
Did I ruin my bases? Or is that bound to happen?

Ya man, there should be wax.  That's why you put it on the ski.  What's wrong with them?

Nothing i was just wondering because some sites say "all" wax should be scraped off and none should be visible. There are small little patches where you can see it.

no it doesn't hurt if theres a little wax. it helps a lot to have a really sharp scraper, and you'll figure out different ways to hold it so it gets almost all of it out. i have a brush that i run over the bases a few times after that gets it all out too.

like phishfood said, a really sharp scraper and pressure will help to get the wax off. i personally do 3 or 4 scrapes down the ski and call it good. it doesn't get all the wax off but leaves a kind of "protective layer" on for a few runs, besides after your first 3 or more runs the wax is completely off the ski. just leave it on.

Also, I heard if you wax your skis while they are not at room temperature, they will warp? Is this true? I waxed the 120cm shitty skis in my garage and it's like 36 degrees out. The skis were totally dry of course.

Never heard that. Usually rule of thumb is that after you put the wax on you let it dry until it is cold to touch or room temp. The best is to leave the wax on overnight and then scrape it off in the morning

Just scrape as hard as you can, but make sure the ends of the scraper go past the edges of your skis, otherwise you might accidentally scrape the bases up

push down real hard, put all your weight behind it untill nothing really coming off.

sorry for thread stealing but i have a waxing question

for christmas i got a waxing iron, wax, and a scraper.do i need to buy a brush too?

For best results all the wax should be scraped off the skis. You then follow that up by a good brush job.

Waxing is most exxective at room temp, because the pores of the bases will be the most willing to accept the most amount of wax.

Um... I don't even scrape all the wax off. I have found that scraping lightly then using a brillow pad to even/smooth everything out makes the wax feel first run fresh for 2 or 3 runs and helps it last longer than scraping the S out of it.

A good judge of how far down you are in the wax is to look at how the wax is scraping off;  If it is coming off in wide sheets, you are near the top and as they narrow you are getting deeper down towards the base and when it is coming off in a fine dust, you are in the base and should stop.

Def check out the Swix Vids. they tend to go a little bit far, but they are made for racer tech heads who want to win races, so i can't blame them.

I'm going to work on my a-bang @ Okemo tomorrow. Peace Suckas.
