can you connect a PS2 to a mac and use its internet connection for SOE? just curious, are there any other neat-o things you can do with connections?

u can prolly just run to a network router/switch/hub whatever u wanna call it, if u get the internet adapter. i also know it has some USB post or something. look into that!

you can NOT hook a ps2 up to a mac in the ways i think you want to. go read my response to someone asking about ps2's for mac in the media and arts forum.
If you're looking to hook up controllers to a mac, it ain't gonna happen. it's not like the xbox controller where it's just a usb hookup w/a proprietary end on it.
you can put the tv out on the ps2 into the mac display by getting some s video converter cables if that's what you're looking to do (i'm too tired to remember your post or anyone's response).
in terms of anything else...not really. ps2 has a linux kit out you can run and samba or nfs files from your mac to your ps2, but that won't do ya much. the bigger hacking effort on consoles has been the xbox b/c it's a 733 intel computer so your shit out of luck, unfortunately.
your best bet is to just get a ps2 and get a mod chip if you're trying to do what i'm guessing you want to.
i've seen people integrate their psx and ps2 into a 5 1/4' drive slot w/the controllers plugging into the front then doing a switch to change display outputs between their computer and their psx/ps2, but that's about it.

haha whoops...i should read your post and not other people's...
anyways, if you're looking to share your internet connection through your mac w/your ps2, you can do that. get a second network card (or if you have an airport on there, get a wireless ethernet bridge for your ps2, linksys sells some ps2/xbox sorta specific ones) for your mac, plug it into your ps2. then go into the system settings and under network, select your nic that's connected to your outside connection. select the configure this interface option and under one of the tabs there's a checkbox for uses this interface to share my internet connection...should be all set.
if you ever host a server, you'll probably need to port forward some ports to allow for incoming syn packets to be routed to your ps2, but just make your friends host it otherwise.
(my eca is kicking in so i'm all wired...if i didn't answer your question...sorry).

no, no I'm satisfied with the responses, I was just trying to find an alternative to buying the network adapter, or if there was anything special that could be done witha mac ps2 connection that I hadn't heard of, either way I might just play around some more

ok.... r u talking about the PS2 port on the computer for the mouse and keyboard? or r u talking about PS@ as in playstation. either case the answer is no. mac switched over to USB mouse/keyboard combos almost as soon as USB ports become public. and i'd say son'y doesn't make the PS2 mac compatible cause if its strictly windows then u might buy one of their VAIO (shittiest comps ever) computers.

i got an idea... u could spend the 100$ or w/e it is to get the PS2 network adapter and plug ur internet right into the thing... ur connection speed would be fast then through USB too.

too bad you can't do network sharing over usb...that'd be nice
