Urban on rails

Hey i got quick question.  When your trying to hit an urban on rail whats the easiest way to get on it.  Would you just wanna take speed into it or kinda just step up onto it.  I slide left foot forward.  Thanks alot!!

speed or a steep rail. the more flat is the rail the more speed you need , has more steep the rail is the less speed you need . what ever fells right on the moment . but speed is your friend...

find the proper blend between stepping on and popping on, for me it's not just one or the other. there's a motion of stepping on first with your inside leg and letting the outside leg follow, and that really helps to get locked in and actually stops you from having your tips come short when you get on. however, you need pop to get your whole body up there; otherwise you're just gonna slide off the side of the rail. so you need a balance between stepping on and popping as i said earlier, just make sure you put a lot of added effort in getting up there if the lip is small or if you don't have much speed. hope this helps.

yes , but on hight rails and technical rail , a step on could destabilize you once on the rail . i just pop has hard has i can whit both feet . so you get a solid pop and you are also solid when you land on the rail, ready for a kink or what ever comes to you . and also , you can pop of the rail easy if some thing goes wrong . it might look and sound difficult , but in the long run it will be better plus more style...

i am perfect at sliding on non-urban rails but recently when i tried a homemade urban setup i was leaning back and slipping out, which never happens to me when i slide, just when i tried urban
and tips?

correct me if i'm wrong but i think he's talking about a backyard urbanly-set-up feature, so i'd say just lean into it; have your weight put onto your leading foot more than you would for a gap-on or ride-on rail.

i think by urban they mean when you have to get on the rail on the side, as opposed to a park style rail, where there is a kicker directly infront of the rail. So for urban style rails, you approach from one side or the other instead of head on.

you're right about that; most of the time urban means a handrail with stairs not meant for skiing, but sometimes it can also mean a style of rail that uses the same kind of jump and can be found without stairs, and even in terrain parks. i think that's what the kid means when he says home-made urban, but that's just my interpretation.

oooohhhh ok then , i call it street style set up ... but what ever fits you
a common thing that kids are doing when i coach at momentum in the summer , is that people the technic of railling because of the harder entry of the rail . i would say , go back to the basics like it would be a regular rail. dont forget to bring your shoulder parallel whit the rail , helping you distributing your wait on each foot. also like mention higher , looking at the end of the rail will help a ton . also istead of doing a full pop onto the feature , try a half pop and suck up your feet instead , giving you a smoother landing on the rail=better control...
