these are all in one form of cough syrup or another. all opiates.

i would like to formally apoligize for my untrue statements about rates of drug use in the netherlands, it was untrue. however, if you look at alcohol prohibition you can see some very clear facts. crime went down 25% after prohibition was ended. during times of prohibition, alcohol use did not go down in the slightest, it in fact rose slightly

completelly true. thats why we should legalize drugs. that way you take away all deaths and struggle related to selling/trafficking. who knows, we could even put a little money we save from not fighting the war on drugs into social problems to help people not do drugs in the first place

you want us to state our reasoning for why ANY drug should be legal, then you are going to FLIP it on us and state the negatives. WELL NO SHIT DUMB-ASS, all drugs shouldnt be legal. people shouldnt be allowed to smoke dmt and run down the street, or take hits of acid when they please. but certain drugs should be legal -----marijuana basically being the only one. It is a great cure, or assistant for many medical disorders that are life threatening, recent studies show that it may actually stimulate brain growth, its not physically addicting, it makes you feel great, the munchies are awesome, and its a plant.......its not constructed in some science lab where people cut it with speed and black tar heroine. Try flipping that one on me

so you think that if we legalize acid and dmt people are just gonna trip the fuck out whenever they want to and go wild? theres laws for being intoxicated in public, and you dont see the streets filled with drunk people. LSD and DMT are also safer than marijuana, and  LSD as well as magic mushrooms are known to treat alcoholism and even headaches. peyote in native american shamans is not a recreational drug, they use it as medicine. if you haven't noticed already, a lot of hallucinogens that get a bad name are actually harmless and can even be theuropeutic.

Ok buddy first off, you have everything completely twisted. i didnt flip anything, i fucked up when i made the thread. it was supposed to be about how the prohibition of drugs is bad.

Second, of course people shouldnt be able to just pop acid and run all over the place. Thats just stupid. If you commit a crime on drugs then you get charged for that crime, its that simple. I'm not saying drugs are good. I choose to smoke pot, thats preference. I'm saying that for the good of society, all prohibition should be lifted. Why you might ask? Just watch this video and it should answer you questions.

ah yes it is bad. however, making it illegal does not change that. it only eats up your money and mine, as taxpayers. and as i recently learned, 2x the amount spent on the iraq war has gone into the drug war. If we could spend some money from that on social programs to help poverty then id bet my bottom dollar that hard drug use would go way down. its worth a try my friend, after all, can you deny that our drug policies have miserably failed?

Sounds like someone is just a little mad.  Move to Colorado or Massachusetts and smoke a little.  As I do agree with you that weed should be legal, certain drugs do not have a right to be legal.  I don't think you can make a strong case that legalizing Heroine will make less people die from it.... Certain drugs are too powerful to quit that easily and they take a higher tole on your body in a faster period of time.  Weed, I feel, does not and really is not a "gateway drug."

Im not mad, i just care about the state of our society. my strong case that legalizing heroin will make less people die because just as many people are killed through sale and traffic than use. if that stops then deaths go way down. just because a drug is legal doesnt mean that everbody will run out to any corner to get it, thats just silly.

the same thing would happen with any drug that's taxed heavily. Of course, it's worse when the drugs are illegal. So I'm with ya!

I wrote out a long ass thing about why it's good for drugs to be illegal but my internet cut out as I was posting. probably all the reasons have been posted though. Legalization boosts GDP, eliminates risk so drug cartels would get a shitload less cash if they sold underground to avoid tax, takes away the costs of keeping drug users in prison, and allows people to get it in a less sketchy manner.

If people want drugs, they'll get them. It doesn't matter how, and it really doesn't matter too much about the price. I'd rather that people get drugs in an non-sketchy manner than buying them from some random guy who could just as well mug them. Of course, a lot of the street dealers are involved in bigger crime rings, so they won't mug you, they'd just rip you the fuck off and give you bad quality stuff or give you something laced, etc.

I have friends in the prison system because of harder drugs than weed. I know what it's like to have friends die because of gang warfare over who controls which segment of the city. It's not like I'm some hippie saying YEAH EVERYONE SHOULD PUT ANYTHING THEY WANT MAN IT'S A FREE COUNTRY DUDDEEEE. Fuck that. We're not that free. We do need to protect the lives of people and make sure that we keep as low a crime rate as possible where we can, and legalizing drugs is one method to do that.

Ok I see your case that death in the area of drug trafficking and sale will go down, but drug dealers will still kill over territory, and I feel more people will go after it because if a drug is illegal, there is an understood reason that it "could" be harmful to you.  For instance, tobacco was the cash crop of the South and still is in many states, and everyone used it.  No one knew that it ultimately destroyed your lungs, etc.  Now it is illegal for people under the age of 18 to use, and strongly discouraged to use period.  A high school kid, when asked if he wants to try tobacco, instead of being like yeah sure, might think about the consiquences (not legal) of using it because studies have shown it could be bad.

I like your points, there just has to be a limit because not everyone in our world has the intelligence to recognize that heroine or cocaine is probably not the best thing for you to do...

i am full for controlled regulation of drugs. i think that its criminal the way drugs are treated in this country. we are too scared to tell our kids the truth about drugs. we need to educate. its not like just because a drug is legal it will be easier to get either. i think its far easier to buy weed than cigs. i think that all drugs should be STRONGLY CONTROLLED. youre not going to just go buy heroin because its legal, it takes a desperate person. and as i said before, if we can reduce poverty with money that we save from ending the drug war. use of hard drugs would go down

i agree that most drugs should be legal, for many of the reasons you have listed, however I cant ever see anyone in government ever going for the legalization of drugs such as meth. Who would produce it? Would they market it as cool etc.. to youth as cigarette companies do? Or would there be laws against it?

Or would you simply decriminalize it? In which case you would still have criminals making it illegally. I dunno man I just cant get my head around that.

i am pretty damn neutral on the whole drug issue... but if i were to take a side it would be more on the libertarian side of GTFO government.

o i cant remember where i read this little tid bit but apparently the netherlands really fucked themselves over with the whole legal drugs dealio... (dont remember where i read it) but i guess there (family) tourism is going down the shitter and crime is sky rocketing...

IMO there are bigger fish to fry...

I feel that we should test the waters with legalizing herb.

simple...because drugs cost people money. Money will almost always lead to crime. I doubt someone who gets addicted to some legal drugs and spends all their money will just give it up til they earn more. No, they'll see your mother leaving the store putting her wallet back into her purse, and they will get outraged, and they will mug her, possibly kill her. And then they'll use her license and get your address, and will break into your house and steal a ton of shit to pay for their habits.

And while it's never personally affected me, my dad is a cop who deals with drug addicts all the time. He says seeing the real hardcore addicts get arrested almost makes the cops feel better, because instead of sitting out in the snow on a sidewalk eating rocks, the guy will be in a prison where he will at least be warm and relatively safe.

Now i'm not saying they should be treated like violent prisoners (because in most cases they aren't) because i think they should be forced to give it up. None of this "show up in the church basement every tuesday at 7" bullshit. Take a prison, refurbish it to make it a bit more comfortable, then lock them in there with counselors etc until they are clean. If the same guy is caught with the same stuff/problems again, then you lock him in a regular prison.
