Moment bases not taking wax??

Alright, So ive been waxin skis for a while now and i just picked up a set of Moment Tahoes. No matter what i do the wax just doesnt stick around more than a day. Little info on my process.

I brush and clean the bases down to just about nothing, drip wax, iron the wax, scrape and brush. Normal type shit. Ive used Swix CH4 and CH7. The CH7 doesnt even stick to the bases barely, the next morning I will scrape them and it will just chip off and be bare in some spots. The other day i repeated the process three times, and it seemed to have a nice good solid coat of wax (swix CH4) but after a day on them they were pretty bare. I ski a lot, probably 4 days a week for about 4-9 hours a day.

Is it just the material that the bases are made of? They seem to be very very "hard" I have had no knicks or dings in these bases and they get pretty abused. Its kinda wierd but good. All of my previous Salomon's and k2's ive owned have hade dents and dings sooooo easily, not my moments though. Ive never had any issues waxing like this. I wax my wife Aura's and my daughters's Bridges with zero issue, they can ski like 3 days solid before any wear shows.

The skis have like 15-20 days on them, they came from the factory dry as all hell. I ski in Alaska , only one day out of all of them have been somewhat icy.

Any help??

I just got my jibs in the mail yesterday, im going to mount them up  today and give them the full wax.  YOure right though, mine are dry as hell too.  I think that maybe they dont do a factory wax like most other companies, probably due to them not having the manpower to hand tune all of them

Maybe just do a couple coats?  Work it in there.  Im going to use CH6.

Not sure what kind of wax I use, but I imagine it's pretty standard. On all my pairs of Moments (Tahoes included), I applied several coats of wax since the base near the edges doesn't take it up so easily. I think I ended up waxing a pair every 10 days of use last year.

And Moment's bases are made with 4001 grade ptex which is among the toughest and more durable.

do you hot scrape or let the wax sit over night? you should always do the later unless your just cleaning them. maybe hotbox them for a day, that should help alot. also what type of iron are you using? what heat setting do you have it at? how many times did you wax them before skiing them?

I waxed twice before their first day of skiing. Im using a Dakine iron set at 135 for the CH4. I do let them sit over night in my heated garage (its usually like 80 in there) over night. When i did let them sit (these past two waxes) i seemed to get a much much better scrape out of them. Thanks for all the help guys

Get them stoneground if you can. That will open up the pores of the base. Then let them get hotboxed one or two time with some super soft base prep.

yeah maybe a stonegrind will help.
and are you scraping them while they're room temperature? if you scrape them when they're cold, the wax will flake off chip away just like you were describing, and won't get into the bases.

a lot of factory finished bases are high quality sintered bases.  however, some times the factory structure is poor and doesn't have the right pattern to take wax good.  take them to a good tuner and put a structure in the bases that is good for your local conditions.  that should make them take wax better, because there are pores or cuts from the stone that will absorb the wax.  after that, you should be able to hot wax them with an iron to get the wax in the base.  stonegrind em.

I've only waxed my jibs twice but both times they seemed to hold somewhat well. The first time I put a coat of wax down, hot scraped it, then put more on and left it in the bases. That actually worked pretty well and the next day the skis were super smooth.

Thanks everyone, i took them up to the shop today when i was picking up my wifes new Aura's and they said they would give them a good solid stone grind and that will solve all the issues. So ill take them up there monday. thanks guys!
