Really steep landing

At my mountain they have this jump that has a really steep landing, and i find it hard to find the right speed. I've overshooted it three times now, and now i am damn scared of it. when i tried to slow down i didnt get to the landing. anyone got any tips for finding the right speed?

Its not all about speed. Watch how people are hitting it.  How much they pop, how they land etc.  Also pay attention to the snow, it can very alot in just a half hour.

It sounds like the trajectory doesn't match the angle of the landing. Tell your park crew to fix it up!

haha yeah i caught that too, but yeah listen to these people, they all got good advice, personally i agree that the park crew should notice that and fix it by makin the jump a little steeper, but if they don't you just gotta find out the proper way to hit it like the first post mentions

i went up to echo mountain yesterday and the landing on the box they sucked, it was steeper that the jump landings and icy. and there was no jump up to it, it was just set in the snow

^ well a lot of places have just like one of those boxes that are just set in snow for the beginners to learn on, and I highly doubt that the landing was really all that steep, it may have been a little steeper, but usually that just from people eating away at it, whether it be board or skis, also the ice forms from multiple people hitting it and landing in the same area, theres not much they can do about that, unless they get a fresh coat of snow, man made or natural, almost constantly, because after the box has been there for a few days, that ice is formed, so theres not too much they can do about that, and those kind of features aren't really tended to too much, because the park crews lookin at the bigger better stuff to keep in great shape

Maybe you're not popping hard enough... steep landings have less to do with speed and more about popping.... well depending on the size of the jump, I guess.

Anyway, what the first guy said. If other people are able to land on it good, then ask them for a tip or two on how to pop, speed n shit. If no ones able to get it, either fuck it or talk to the park crew. nuff said

talk to the groomer and have him/her push the jump back a little.. We have a 15 foot stepdown jump using a hill as a landing.  Its a good pitch but I tend to land low a lot.  Landing is probably 30-40ft long.  He moved the jump back another 10 feet.

i almost like flat landings now.im so used to it cause my park crew sucks at building jumps. got crazy lips to flat landings. FUN. i almost like them though.

Use some sort of marker to determine where you think you need to start. Start there, and don't make any turns or use your poles to gain speed, and if you case, step up the hill a little, and if you are going too far, step down. Adjust where you are relative to the fixed point and eventually you will have the prefect speed and can hit the jump all you want and still land in about the same spot, with the only thing that changes being your pop off the lip.
