Replying to Edge Sharpening
Yeah ice busters are kinda garbage. The best thing to use if a high quality file. Go to a ski shop and buy a normal race file (you can also get away with the ones at the hardware store just don't be too cheap) Then to start you'll need a file gude, its just a sheath of plastic that you slip over the file that rests on the base so that you maintain the edge's bevel (they usually aren't 90 degrees .... find out from your shop) Once you get a sense of the angle, you can freehand it with the file. Don't take too much edge off, a good technique is to put black marker on the edge, when you file that off, you can think about stopping. To keep your edge longer and to keep it sharper longer, don't sharpen with the file all the time, maintain the edge with a Gummi stone (after you just sharpeped) it removes micro burrs and although it seems to dull hte edge, the edge will stay sharper longer. I got this cool tool at Squire John's in Collingwood .... its a mini diamond file. That's how i keep my edges up, run it over the edge a couple of tiems after a day of ralis and they take off tons of burs, and keep the edge somewhat 90. Hope that helps.
