Pvc vs abs breaking/chipping.... quick question for karma

So i read the latest thread on pvc chipping but still want input:

I had a 10 foot flat abs rail that i have been skiing for over a year, and a 10 foot pvc shotgun rail that i just built yesterday.

it was only like minus 10 out and after 4 hits on the new double barrel we encountered a massive chip/scratch and we tried to hit it some more.... but we just massacred both of the brand new pvc tubes that were on it in under 10 hits...(this was the first day using it)  so we go back to our other rail, and by the end of the night half of the abs cracked off and snapped off.

so i want to put new tubes back on the shotgun, but don't want the exact same thing happening again what do you guys recommend? i think i key factor was that last night i invited these two skiers who are not too used to rails and i think we were hitting i pretty hard.

Should i make the shotgun rail better supported? should i buy pvc or abs or something else? is there a way i could set it up so we land on it softer?

any imput is wanted i need these answers relatively quick + k to good answers and vice versa for assholes.

okay so here is your problem. it was -10 (farenheiht I presume)...that will cause either pipe to crack and brake. I would suggest you NOT hitting pvc in those temperatures or abs. I personally have never never used abs and I have only used PVC. The only time I have had pvc crack is when we hit it about a 1000 times and landed in the exact same spot. I am going to suggest to you that you use PVC because I have never used abs and have never had a problem really with PVC. If you can i would use 4 1/2" pvcs or it may be 3/4"...not 100 percent sure. they are small and are less likely to break. thanks a ton... so i was using two 2 inch as my double barrel so it would be stronger if i used three 2/3 inch ones? i was skiing at minus 10 celceus actually which is 14 Fahrenheit, so i'm still not sure that temperature was a big problem.

What schedule pipe are you using? If possbile and you can afford it go for schedule 80, stuff is like a good 3/8 inch thick.

sounds like it was a bit to cold and you were porbably just being a bit to hard on it

-10 is too damn cold to be hitting pvc.

Don't use ABS. Just stick with PVC. It's better for skiing in many ways.

You have to make sure your skis are detuned or at least very dull on the edges around your boots.

And, you have to try to make a softer entry onto the rail (don't stomp the shit out of it)

i think pvc is better i had some and it chiped but abs broke on me so i tuned my edges to almost spherical and the pvc didn't chip at all

I built a pvc jib two weeks or so back, it cracked after just a few hits. It was -25 F outside. I wonder what the coldest temperature pvc can handle is...
