JJ's hellbents or EP's for pow?

so i am most likely going to MSU (thats in bozeman, Montana) next year...majoring in film woot woot. I know i need to start looking for a pow ski cause all i have now are volkls (80 under foot) and line blends(90 under foot)..prolly not gonna purchase for awhile but i just wanted to see what everyones take on these three pow skis were? which do you think is the best?

I have both JJs and EPs, both great pow skis but not for the same kind of pow. There are a million threads on this though so im going to have to ask you to look around~

i'd say jj's or hellbents, bents if you plan on doing alot of switch pow, jj's for all mountain. Ep's are just too soft for my taste.

i have EP's and theyre fun as hell I think, but I've never rode the others, so i can't say. EPs for pure powder, kinda tricky in other conditions, but certainly fun everywhere

ok i dont believe you for one second..cause ive skied in montana and they get better pow than we ever get here...and about the park thing..i really like doing park..last year was my first true year doing park so i dont need a super good park..just a couple of kickers and rails/boxes does it for me

bro just cause we had a dump of snow and had a couple say of good snow doesn't mean we always have good pow. snoqualmie ussually never has good pow. and crystal and stevens sometimes have some good pow but its really wet alot of the times.

baker and crystal are the only places that have good powder.
and that varies season to season.

never really been to baker..and dont get me wrong i love crystal but everytime i got up there last year the pow seemed to be sooo heavey..not so much fun

The snow is usually just as heavy at Baker compared to Crystal...

It really depends, do you want a big mountain charger (JJ's) or a softer playful pow ski(Bents/EP's)?

they don't actually cost 1k, that $1250 or whatever price is called MSRP and no one actually sells it for it. Actual price is some where around $799 and they are worth it.

get the bents i dont want to have to wait for u every time u crash because your ep pros washed out every time u hit a jump....
you should also look at getting a pair of the seths they re 105 under foot and have a lot more rocker this year than last, + my bro is about to get a pair

bents and EP pros suck compared to s7's both in powder and out. that is the honest truth. the s7 is the best ski to come out since the og ten eighty.  the only skis that are better in powder then it are spats, toons, and praxis. donnor parties are also probably good but I have not skied them yet.   s7's are the most versitile.

Damn we have a lot in common. I Go to Msu and my hometown is in washington. I have Line blends also 179. I just changed to hellbents from seth viscious skis last year. If your skiing bridger bowl get a fatty ski that is stiff enough to still charge. There are so many sick lines off the ridge.

billygoats (very similar to S7) do ski powder effortlessly (like hot knife thru butter without tip dive), however they aren't quite the fun surfy slashy ride as the pontoons or hellbents.  they do share the (more so) pintail shape with the pontoon than the hellbent which creates a very "pivot turn" feel in the pow.  the early taper reduces the running length of the sidecut, which makes them more than manageable in chop and groomers.  you still feel nimble rather than the "im simply going to bowl over everything in my path despite the tip flop" of hellbents on chop and groomers.

it all depends how much chop/crud/groomer performance you would like to gain for sacraficing the 100% pow ski.

pull the trigger allready. depending on the size and condition bents are worth $300-$400 themselves, dukes are $300-$350 themselves. so pull the damn trigger.

Billy Goats are more of a bouncy ski. very fun to ski but not a go through everything that the great scotts will be.

I just bought some Hellbents when I went back to Bozeman for the holiday. I rode them three days up there in fresh pow, chop and crud. They pretty killed it all over Bridger. I think they're my new primary skis, about all I found they weren't good for was bumping ... obviously. I bought Thugs last year for powder in a 181 and the hell bents I got are 179s. I didn't notice the size difference hardly at all. I did noticed the side cut of the hell bents compared to the thugs. Despite the rocker, they still carve pretty amazing, I could do long sweeping and sharp quick at top speed. I don't know, I love my hell bents. But on the other hand I rode bridger for 4 seasons on Scratch FS skis.

On another note, MSU's film school is a joke. You'd be better off buying a Mac PRo, FCS 2, a camera and a bunch of DVDs with good special features. We'd check out the student films every year and I never saw a single thing that wasn't on par with the crap I slapped together in 8th grade using iMovie. Maybe it wasn't so much the school and that fact that most of those kids were idiots ... but it is the common factor. I feel bad for those kids parents that gave them 10k+ for the budgets ... I'd disown my kid for spending my money and putting my last name on some of that rubbish. But I digress.

I have been making films since i was ten..and have been in the film industry since i was like 6. MSU has one of the top ten film schools on the west coast. You have access to all the equipment right when you come in as a freshman..even though almost everyone gets in i think it is freshman year they make alot of cuts so the kids that make the crappy videos you saw get dropped. also something like 95 % of the film students get a job in the field right after graduation. And buddy they use final cut pro..which imovie cannot touch...final cut pro has been used to edit oscar winning movies..so all and all MSU has a very respectable film school
