Hey Everybody,

I work for Katal and had a big part in putting this video together. Very cool to see the interest from this site, our views exploded as soon as it was posted! Thanks!

Though they werent featured in the video we have tested it with skiiers and thought of many of the concerns posted here. The bag itself is a very strong vinyl, and it is covered with a special topsheet (black in the video) in all of our tests we only had one small tear in the topsheet which was easily repaired. The idea is that the bag itself is nearly indestructable, and the gliding surface is easily replaced or repaired if it does get ripped or torn. Its fine for poles and edges!

Also, we definitely want people to be able to bring the tricks they learn on this to snow. We really hope that eventually we'll be able to set it up with two identical hits, one side with the landing pad, and one side the exact same takeoff and transition but onto snow. Once you have a trick dialed, the risk of completely messing up the spin is a lot less.

We're just finalizing our plans for this winter so I'll keep you all posted as we progress. But yeah thanks again for the interest! The more people we have wanting to hit it, the faster we can make it happen!

Also: Is anyone aware of a snowboard forum similar to this site? I've posted it around on a couple but haven't found anything nearly as active as newschoolers. Let me know if you think of anything!

coming off more of a racing style for like 12 years and just starting to really hit the park, i would go nuts on that thing. right now im still getting over that hump of being scared to bite it, but with this thing, i could progress soooo quick. its a great idea, its the foam pit of bmx, and this will change skiing and boarding like non other. Tanner could easily be working on his 1440 or even 1620 with this thing, ya know?

skiers could probably hit it if they just put their din down a shit ton. Then again kinda hard to land but you can still figure out what it takes to land correctly instead of messin up your legs

Nobody seems to have mentioned this but... You could also hit this thing in the summer no? Instead of water ramps. Have a water ramp type jump and have this set up on a hill and then slidable material after for the rideaway

It's so easy to seriously hurt yourself park skiing, this is such a good idea to reduce injuries. Simple but effective. Gutted for that guy who fooked himself. Was that video of the crash him getting? paralysed? It was so nearly landed!

small question;

what happens if you don't right yourself by the time you reach the bottom of the airbag.

i can see somebody landing with their head downhil, skis/board uphill, sliding down the bag, and doing a faceplant onto the snow.

Or is this pretty much impossible to do?

The new prototype we will be unveiling at Lake Louise is much larger than the one in the posted video. I'm sure it would be possible to tumble off of it, but there is much less chance of that happening now. The main idea is to absorb that initial impact. If you land on your head and tumble off the bottom, its still worlds better than landing on your head without the Pad.
