Fuck lift tickets, walk up?

I live closest to the MD,PA area mountains and I want to ski really badly.I had the idea to walk up the mountain  instead of paying for alift ticket and just get to the terrain park where there is a j lift where they dont check for tickets. What would happen if they caught me doing this and how many other people would do this. I did it once before and didn't get caught but I'm not sure I can do this all the time. Is it true that the mountains are lease by the state and the skiresort only has the right to build on it? Lemme know thanks.

i dunno if it is a LIFT ticket, so you could make that argument. just say you are using the mountain not the lift. unless the mountain is private property. then that sucks

I don't know about your mountain, but if you do it at keystone you will probably get multiple life sentences in a hardcore pound me in the ass federal prison.

They cant do shit about it if its public land. That doesnt mean you can use any of their features equipment though. Anyways if you are going to hike you might as well hit the bc with a friend~

Its Liberty, Roundtop and Whitetail in Pennsylvania. They are very small so you can legitimatly walk up halfway.

j lift = lift = need lift ticket

if you're caught you can be subject to fines and whatnot. i'm not telling you to buy a ticket, i've done my fair share of hiking and ticket clipping in the past. just be careful, if you're on the hill without a ticket you are subject to prosecution - whether you hiked or took a lift.

if your gonna hike, you could take an expired lift ticket so if you get caught by someone without one of those scanners, you could prob just show them it

i always say i have a seasons pas and that i left it on my other pants ot at home or some bullshit

and that they can ever check the computer system and they are always to lazy or dont have time to go actually check unless you pissed them off or something

the only resorts you can walk/skin up without getting in trouble are the ones on forest service land, which most out west are  on.

Well if you are willing to put in a long drive up here in MA to Jiminy peak you can time when they check ticktes ... i go for free everyday i ski and i am able to use the lift... Jiminy lacks the man power to check tickets. About 90percent of the day they are not checking and if they are wait about an hour and then go back up or go to another lift.... that is another thing too jiminy checks one lift at a time so just use the other lift.... fuck tickets and fuck walk up!!

walk and if you get stopped by an employee just tell them that you lost your lift ticket on your last run and you're retracing your run to see if you can find it.

yes everyone should undercut their local mountain so its forced to close due to decreased lift ticket revenues.  and then start stealing your ski equipment instead of paying for things.  together we can bankrupt the ski industry thanks to a bunch of whining privileged teenagers of NS.

we wouldnt want you to accually have to pay to support the people who accually provide you with all the things that make a ski resort and support you local economy
get a life you fuckers not everything in this world is free and if you want something you have to pay for it so suck it up and buy a ticket or stay at home and sesh your own rails in your backyard
would you like it if someone just came and started hitting your backyard rail? neither do ski hills

technically you can hike up but your not allowed to use any features because the jumps and rails and everything are the resorts property. so if you get caught unlikely but you can get charged with a theft of services charge... thats in nh at least.

anyone can walk to the top of ski roundtop.  It has a verticle drop of 500 feet.

Roundtop has been sending ticket checkers to walk up to incubater park if people are hiking, I'm not sure if the other mountains are, but I would suggest you just buy an overpriced ticket. I guess if you hiked the park it would be considered theft of services so you would be the most "thug" person on the whole mountain.

Damn, thanks for the heads up. It just sucks because the only snow around here is up in the mountains an hour away. I wish I had snow to build backyard jibs but I don't because of global warming.

they'll probably be mad pissed cause on the back of all the tickets at my home resorts it states where and why there not liable, like even if your walking up to watch a comp or race they give you these "foot traffic" tickets that just say there not liable and your on your own out there if you get hurt

i did it at vail one time.  (fuck everyone, vail deserves it).  We had ski patrol come up on us but we just said we were hiking up a little bit to a jump one of our friends built.  And they were ok with it and let us go.  Guess they didn't see our footprints running down the entire trail.  It was a bitch but we saved 80 bucks.

last year i dont think i payed once. they never check tickets and the one time they did check i told them i lost it and like got all freaked out cuz i "lost" my ticket and he just told me to go down to the ticket office and get a new one.  now i realize that im just stealing money from my mountain that could be used for new stuff so i bought a season pass this year

The first two years i was learning to ski in the pipe i would always hike up because the lift went beyond what i needed, so it was faster to hike. Buttermilk is on forest service property though, and i did have a valid season pass anyway. No one ever stopped me. We have uphill foot traffic on all four mountains all times of day and it is perfectly legal. It is actually pretty popular to skin up at night and ski down by moonlite. Things are pretty relaxed around here. I'm prettysure that if they stopped you they would give you a warning at least as opposed to hauling you off to jail for your first offense.

you will probably get theft of services if you're lucky maybe included with tresspassing. oh and probably a ban for a couple seasons. stop being a cheap bitch and buy tickets how do u think they put stuff up in the park? just build some stuff in your backyard if you dont wanna buy a ticket probably your best bet.

I would think twice about running into cats, snowmobiles and other equipment on the trails next time you do this, and also the fact that if you fall, no one will find you until morning, thats really dangerous.

i don't think you fucking kids understand how much work goes into making terrain parks (money, long hours in a cat, raking, shaping, etc.) and to go to a mountain and poach that shit is worse than poaching the lift. terrain park dept. don't often get the funding they deserve and shit like this only makes the situation worse and will likely result in decrease in the budget for terrain parks.

basically your saying fuck you (and you think you better than) all the people that worked really hard to put up that terrain park, as well as everyone that paid for a lift ticket or season pass, and support their local mountain.

not to mention you can really fuck up the grooming.  if the cats go by and leave nice corduroy and then you skin or ski thru it before it right before it freezes up, your tracks will literally be set in.  you may say "screw the groomers, fuck the cats, etc" but this can really mess up all the money a resort pours into its grooming.

If I could I would live out in colorado on a small hill somewhere and build my own shit for free. I can't and i want to ski and the only place that has snow is the mountain. You know what, guess what extra money liberty is going to get since I wont hike up, NONE. All I would be using is the park, and giving them liability. Stop calling me an asshole that I want to get for free which every human should have a right too. This is the only way I can ski. What do you expect me to do all season? Not Ski? It is my favorite thing in the world to do.

I disagree. The mountains here see lots of uphill night traffic, and no, it does not mess up the groom. I have encountered guys working on the hill and the typical response is along the lines of "nice going guys, have a great ski down" or "wish I didn't have to work or I'd join you". It's not hard to stay out of the way of a cat. They have lots of lights, and make a lot of noise. They generally do not groom the same strip twice, so chances are that if it has been groomed they will not be going that way again. If it really makes you scared you can stay near the trees, they don't groom the glades. Seriously, it would have to be some really weird snow to sink in deep enough to "damage the groom", at which point the snow would be such shit that who the fuck would care. Strange that you guys should care so much about the rare person that hikes up the local hill. It's really not that big of a deal. Shit, hike more, it will make some of you weaklings a little stronger. No ski area would go out of business and look back and say " damn all those people hiking up, thats definately what did us in". Geez!
