How cold is too cold??

How cold do you guys think it has to be for you pass up skiing. I was suposed to go skiing to day but now my dad wont take me because he thinks -23 degrees celcius is too cold to go. im really pissed because i was really looking forward to go skiing today. Is there anything i could tell him to change his mind.

yesterday i went skiing and it was -42 with windchill (-35 without i think) and today im going and its   -27 (without) but my parents wont go, i got a ride up with friends both days.(thats celcius). If its cold and you start to go numb in your toes just go chill in the loge for 10 minutes and get warmd up, thats what i do.

So far this year the coldest has been -20 F w/ wind chill, that was cold but i kept skiing.
When my toes get cold I go into the lodge and warm them up, then put those toe warmers in my boots, works wonders.

Coldest ive ever skied was around -35C in bromont quebec, with the windchill. I had to go out because it was for my level 2 instructor course.

that place is completely exposed, I had all my clothing and two jackets (both of them shells mind you) on and I was still cold.

i skied CB last year and it was -38 the whole time we were there.

you'd breathe in and your nose hair would freeze. thats borderline rediculous.

so yea, any colder than -40 and i'd call it quits. skiing is tons of fun, but when your miserable from the cold...it just aint worth it

holy shit some of you guys skied in fucking cold weather, the coldest for me was -32 celcius.

I dunno around -20 to -30 celcius is where it starts becoming quite a nuisance but I'll still go.  After around -30 is when I start thinking fuck this

i skied I think it was -10 F without windchill and prob -30F with wind chill last week. wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

it's currently around -20 or so ("feels like -25C") so I decided to stay in a bit this morning and just go for a quick couple runs in the afternoon. Two years ago I was down in salmon, id and we were going to go skiing at this small ma and pa hill up on a pass between idaho and montana but it was like -42C or something and the hill didn't open.

Personally I don't mind the cold too much, it's more the wind that gets to me.

haha the coldest weather i've skied in was -20 C. and i thought that was way to cold for me. but i dunno it can be dryer air over in the us, so it might feel warmer

it is never too cold to ski...

anyone remember YGO Avila? It was fuckin -42 that day, i drove 3 hours to get there. i really didnt want to ski but they kept the comp on for some reason and i was not paying 60$ for nothing.

Its been -30ish here for the past week and it will be hovering around -20 this week. Last weekend they closed the hill because it was too cold.
I wont go if its -20ish. Because tack the wind onto that. If the hills gets 30 cm of snow i'll go, but if they are getting trace amounts, nah.

I went yesterday, it was -30 C, and to say the least it was gay. I wasn't that cold, because I had 4 layers, but the snow was just SOO SLOW. It was not fun. And in the morning, my ghosts were so stiff I couldn't put them on, so I went into the washroom, warmed them up under the hand dryers, then pinched my hands trying to spread the cuff to get my feet in. I managed to get in, then when I got up, the snow was super slow. I would, but I just can't ski the way I want when it's that cold.

depends where you are, if you are in utah or colorado its really dry up there so you will stay pretty insulated but once you get somewhere a bit more humid like say tahoe or east coast then it will feel much colder.

I checked the temps this morning and decided not to go, when shit gets down near 0 in the PNW its really fucking brutal because of the wet climate. 0 Here and 0 in CO is flat out not comparable. Tomorrow is looking sexy though~

/\ very true.  I've never skiied in conditions below 0.  Crystal was at -9 the other day and I had to bail.  -9 is ridiculous for the area.

Hmm Tahoe is the driest place ive lived or spent time in (lived in utah and oregon and spent time in CO). Definitely far from Humid there. But what your saying is correct.

Ha ive been standing outside filming urban the past couple weeks and it hasnt really gotten above ten. Down in the negatives and -20 to -30F with wind chills, but thats just standin still filmin. Was in bball shorts the other day wen it was below zero wind chill :). Ha if you know me you wouldnt be surprised.

Yesterday was so fucking cold so skiing it was insane and today isn't any better. I had pretty much everything of clothing on with park gloves(horrible choice) and my hands froze in about 5minutes. But I can deal with cold it's just the combination of wind and cold that is not even fun to ski in when you are miserable.

Coldest for me was like -38 degrees Fahrenheit when I woke up, the highs that day were like -10 degrees Fahrenheit.  But I'm used to skiing in cold weather, it doesn't really bother me, I just wear like 5 or 6 layers and it's all good. I wouldn't pass up a day to ski because of the cold.

if its under 15 degrees farenheit then its gettin pretty cold. ill still ski, but thats uncomfortable. call me a pussy but i dont like it when its blistering cold. i think 30-35 degrees F is perfect

Well when i got frostbite -30 C with windchill but it wasn't that i was necessarily cold..i would have been fine with a facemask. Anything more than -35 with windchill is just not fun.

I was about to make this same thread. bless the searchbar

I was at Mt Snow on Sat, and it was numbingly cold out. probably around 3 degrees at the base plus windchill. The amount of cold I can put up with is directly connected to the amount of coin I have to drop for a pass. plus the fact that their park is great helped a bunch. once the temp gets around -5 Fahrenheit I start having second thoughts about going out

Its funny that everyone is dropping the wind chill claims, which mean nothing really when you are skiing because you create your own wind chill.

For example, say it's 15 F, no wind. You are standing on top of the mountain, no wind chill, still 15 F. You haul ass down a long cruiser and get up to 45 MPH, the wind chill is now -9 F. Or say it's -20F and you go 45 MPH the wind chill will be -58 F. See what I'm getting at?

I think the coldest I have skied was probably around -40F Central Montana can get brutally cold.

ive gotten soft. it was 4f here and windy and i was bitching about the cold. 

IT WAS COLD!

not to mention when my boot heaters run out and i can no longer feel my toes. its time to quit. haha
