Short Ski are the future . . . ?

I think so.  I mean yea long skis are great at speed and on groomers but a park ski doesn't necessarily need to excel at that.  Fastest youll ever bee going is into a park jump and that isn't even that fast.  Short skis would be lighter, better swing weight, and be easier for tech tricks like 270's on and switch ups.  Check out these skis on wallisch

couldnt be more than 165 cm and centre mounted.  look like a snowboard cut in half. So sick.

 Also ns's favourite pirate Cedric Tremblay Fournier (apologies if name is spelt wrong) definately uses short skis his edits prove it time and time again and his tricks are very snowboard oriented and progressive.  Nosepresses and tail presses to spinning out all in his repetoire.

I mean if freeskiing ever wants to have a future i hate to say it but it must move away from its mogul/ariels roots and move towards proper board sports.   lose the poles, ditch the long lengths, and were essentially snowboarders facing forwards. 

Is this the future you see for freeskiing?  Express your thoughts.

just buy some rossi's in your actual size. the swing weight is soooo low. it feels like your wearing shoes in the air.

very well put ryan.  me personally i like skis that go to around my forehead.  but last night i used 155 atomic twins and im 6 feet. (my bindings broke on my invaders)

Dumont is  a legal midget and he rocks 181's in the pipe so that means short skis= better skillz in the park and pipe

seriously it all depends on what floats your boat when it comes to ski sizes, personally i rock 174's and 179's in the park. im 6ft

I don't think one person in here has posted about weight. I really hope you guys know that height is not the only factor that determines proper ski size.

I'm a little over 6' 1", weigh about 180lb and I skis park on 186 bibby's centre mounted but on occasion I take out an old pair of 169 fujas centre mounted just to have fun and get stupid tech on the jib factor it really is all personal preferance but longer skis are a lot more stable in landings

thanks you alex for such a wonderfull opinion :)

Anyway I think Tom's rail skis are 169.


For the record I'm 5 6" and like 155.

I like using smaller skis for urban, I used sksi from 161 to 171 when shooting for LSS and rode urban with 175 triplets and 171 jibs after that. Longer skis dont make sense for rails as they are not as easy to spin  real fast onto or out of something. That being said shorter skis are not really better.

I like to ski something between 171 and 180 for park cause it give me stability and  the control I want in the parks are ride wich are not that big.
I often use 181 and bigger when I'm hitting jumps only, set up with sketchy spee and/or dont want to do fast spins on small jumps.

It's all about personnal preference and figurng out what give you the most bang for the $$$.

Shorts skis makes it easier to complete spins with less amount of rail tiem while longuer skis give you more stability.

With  shorter (171cm) I could do fakie 1080 with a good grab on jumps I could barely spin  a fakie 1080 with any grab with longer skis (181cm). 

Dumont used to ride pipe with 161 and got the samekind of air and better grabs, he was just falling more often.
